Yeah, no point in looking for moral redemption in any of them. Declan tried to be a pariah but changed his mind
His delivery of āIām gonna make sure you canāt get a job selling TVs at Rumbelowsā ![]()
Really want to see full episodes of Four Men Went to Mow and Masterdog.
I really enjoyed āRivalsā. Knowing nothing about the book, am I right in thinking that the series is just the first half? I tried Googling it but got a massive spoiler - Iām not doing that again.
No idea but Iām excited to learn there might be more
A second series has been confirmed
Finished it last night.
Tennant was bloody good in it wasnāt he? Probably a tricky tightrope to walk for an actor playing that character but I reckon he got the balance spot on. Thought Parkinson and Dyer put in effective
performances too.
What a fun programme though. It did that lovely thing of giving even minor characters some moments of great character work. Reminded me of peak Sex Education in that way- emotional moments in a huge ensemble cast.
Spoilerā¦(but only for the end of this series nothing beyond)
I enjoyed reading this post very much BUT Taggie is great and the whole point is that her humility juxtaposed with their ambition and āsuccessā shows us what it really is⦠greed and cruelty! And she doesnāt ever āstand up for herselfā but she does stand up for other people (and animals) and that is why RCB falls in love with her and is redeemed! The point is not that taggie should be more assertive but that the rest of them could do with being a bit less assertive!!!
Somehow managed to watch episode 6 thinking it was episode 1. Thought it was a weird intro to these characters. FFS.
The way they made it a knowing 80s period piece with some little meta nods really added to it for me. Couldāve been really shit but itās genuinely funny and flies by
Also I think Maude is supposed to be a bougie, urban intellectual and artistic libertine, they are frisky ITV Cotswolds and cardigans (I havenāt read the books)
Finished it yesterday and absolutely loved it
My wife was like āyou hate this sort of thingā but i was gripped. I enjoyed how self aware it was and funny and the characters were brilliant
It could have ended up down more of a āsaltburnā route, which i actively hated, so i was so pleased it didnt. Cant wait for series 2
Best thing on tv this year. Obv all the bonking and bust ups are entertaining but also love the setting - particularly the localised tv network stuff that was such a thing back then.
Havenāt read the book Rivals so not sure if thereās much more from that to be covered? If they do move on to another one at some point itāll be interesting to see if they keep the Rivals title or change depending on the book theyāre focusing on? Also wonder how strictly they stick to the other books or whether they just use them as inspiration and then plot their own path.
Actually think they could continue to add a bit more depth to things (whilst obviously retaining the industrial levels of bonking) and it could become an outstanding series. Arguably they already started that in this series, sometimes light fun stuff like this is a good vehicle for providing very powerful commentary on injustices in society.
Finally watching it, realised where Iād seen the main bloke, heās Translucent in The Boys.
Enjoyed the first two episodes but have just watched the third and am now a bit confused. Am I supposed to think itās fine that Rupert, who seems old enough to be Taggieās Dad, is seemingly on course to shag her when sheās pretty much portrayed as a child? So many grim moments in it Iām not sure Iāll make it to the end.
I donāt think youāre meant to think itās fine tbh
Apparently they aged her up from the book (20 as opposed to 18).
I read there was meant to be a 17 year gap between them in the books but the actor definitely looks mid-forties so it just seems very grim to me.
Finally watching this and of course Iām completely in love with Declan. My goodness, that man!!!
Finally watching this and we love it. Danny Dyer doing karaoke is a joy.
