Used to be a great read
That’s good - used to really like this mag, great reviews and the free CD introduced me to loads of bands (@TKC as well I can imagine). Didn’t they phase the CD out though before they went under? Shame, hope they bring that back.

I bought the very first issue of Rock Sound, many years ago
They wrote a lot about rock music, if I recall correctly

Rock Sound is definitely responsible for shaping my music tastes, especially during my teenage years. ISIS, Cult Of Luna, Mastodon, Converge, Botch… there’s a lengthy list of bands that I probably wouldn’t have discovered if it wasn’t for Rock Sound.
Pretty sure it was RS that organised the ISIS, Cult Of Luna, DJ Speedranch, Johnny Truant and 27 gig at Mean Fiddler maybe 20 years ago. 27 and some of CoL joined ISIS on Weight and it was the best thing ever.

I was on a rock sound cd once - way back in like 2009 or something. was great, and nice that they thought satan worthy of a very rock focused magazine. good eggs.

Yeah it was absolutely vital for me as a 16/17 year old. Fairly sure it got quite diluted though - havent bought the magazine for years but I would take the odd glance at the website and it seemed very new pop punk heavy. Oddly Kerrang now seems to be the ones giving exposure to the lesser known bands

There was a point when I checked out of it when all they featured was that kind of pop-punk (You Me At Six, All Time Low, Chunk, No Captain Chunk, those kind of shitters) and when they pulled the free CD. Balls to that.
Got about 150 rock sound cds still!

I think Rock Sound was really important for me getting into loads of the rock at the time - Reuben, Blakfish, Tubelord and Biffy (Get Fucked Stud was on a cd they put out and blew my 16 year old mind). Really important for me branching out beyond Foo Fighters and Led Zeppelin and discovering more things.
