Very first impression - I don’t want a pop album over an hour long (or an album by a pop star, more accurately)
First album of hers I don’t find completely boring
Quite funny just how much Heated sounds like Drake
Is that the one Drake wrote?
Aye and recorded his own version too which has a snippet out
Wonder if it was Drake or Bey that penned the same ableist slur that Lizzo got panned for
It’s gonna be withdrawn and fixed apparently
Really daft that it didn’t get picked up and fixed after the Lizzo one
Yeah, very strange
I imagine the final album will have literally been heard by 100s of people and not one picked up on it
Team Beyonce apparently closely checked all her collaborators for anything that could be problematic but somehow managed to miss the high-profile Lizzo lyrics controversy from all of six weeks ago. Doh! Oh well fixed now at least.
Smacks a bit of no one daring to tell Beyoncé what to do
Hasn’t Beyoncé used it before?
I don’t know, it’s impossible to google
It seems like it is a far more acceptable word to use stateside than in the UK …like the ‘r’ word
…which has lead to some pretty grim comments on social media
Kanye used it on FourFiveSeconds and I’m sure at least a few more times
Definitely been a semi regularly used word in American rap up until the last couple years I’d say
The word is synonymous with losing physical/mental control …as in mimicing someone with cerebral palsy or other motor-neurone or similar condition - hence the slur
It comes from spastic diplegia, a specific type of cerebral palsy that effects control of lower limbs
For usage as an actual lyric I’d say it’s meant to be in the area of “freaking out”
Or that specific line could be beating up/spanking depending on contextual clues from rest of the track (haven’t listened)
breaking down and explaining lyrics always improves them, just like with jokes!
Yeah, being a bit cynical here but Lizzo used the word, got called out for it and then fixed it, so comes out looking good as a person who will admit when they’re wrong. Is it possible that Team Beyonce saw all that, realised they could silently remove the word before release and nobody would ever know, or they could release it, do an “oops” statement, and then get some good publicity for fixing it?
On the one hand Beyonce surely doesn’t need extra publicity, but on the other hand it stretches belief for me that nobody’s going over those lyrics with a fine-toothed comb and whoever’s job that is must surely have heard about the Lizzo thing
Like rich people never assume they arent maintaining what got them there in the first place like infamously tight millionaire she nay still use publicists regularly to maintain image even if they are deemed past the need of one
Hmm, not sure
Beyoncé releases everything on her own label Parkwood, which has a marketing & distribution deal with Sony and it would not surprise me at all if the deal was basically ‘Beyoncé/Parkwood have complete creative control’ so no one at Sony would even question her perceived creative decisions
Lizzo is on Warners so the recent controversy over her using the word would not have gone through the same people at all
I think it’s more likely one of those things where people on the inside were like ‘Well are you gonna tell her? I’m not gonna tell her’ or a bunch of different people thought that other people were gonna fix it or whatever
I think it’s highly unlikely that it would be a manufactured controversy …but maybe …who knows
