Sounds like the school and the Council took reasonable steps to tidy up the initial fuck up.

But what the Police…

police officers from the Prevent Team had offered to send a lecturer into classes to challenge Jack’s views

What the hell is this all about?

One of my worst fears, this sort of thing.

To challenge his views about…being opposed to fascism?

That fascism is on the rise in Canada, an inherently multicultural country of farcical size and natural wealth, should be the final argument against it having anything to do with economic or ‘space’ pressures.

I think the Government has consistently ignored experts on drugs for decades. Haven’t the experts always been behind liberalisation of drugs laws? And yet obviously it’s political suicide so no Government wants to listen.

Awful :persevere:

Incredible bravery shown by the marchers though, I can’t imagine what it must be like to have to deal with something like this.

Good.

I really dislike Eric Kaufman all he seems to do is coat far-right talking points with a veneer of liberal respectability. Either he’s utterly oblivious as to the current political situation or he’s being incredibly disingenuous.

This Guardian piece highlights the positive that Dutch police and transport authorities are refusing to enforce the burqa ban…

…but hidden in there in passing it says that the police have endorsed the idea that anyone can make a “citizen’s arrest” if they suspect an infraction of the law. Great then, can’t see any possible abuses of that.`

Urgh citizens arrest that’s grim. Cos what kind of citizen is going to care about the ban and want to enforce it? Small minded racists and bigots. Awful.

Some nice rewriting of history in Scotland…

National Galleries of Scotland currently have an exhibition of art themed around migration from Scotland in 1760-1860 that - really quite impressively - fails to mention the Highland Clearances beyond referring to them as ‘improvements’.

Context: The Clearances are the forced migration of 150,000+ people over that same period by aristocratic landowners so they could graze sheep instead. Funnily enough, descendants of those aristocratic landowners still own a lot of land in Scotland and quite like to sponsor the odd gallery exhibition.

does my nut in the wealth and power these families have still today as a result of their ancestors forcibly driving so many people to homelessness and starvation, sometimes burning them alive in their own homes.

Eh?

See also Wales, Ireland. I know we voted the wrong way on Brexit but please can we join you in the great Celtic nation of the future when you both inevitably sod ‘Great Britain’ off?

Without clarification on what you’re getting at here, that comment seems confusedly snide as a response to the @AtTheBorderGuy post. Which seems rather uncharacteristic. Feels like I’m missing something here?

This does not augur well. All communication lines in the province have been cut and soldiers are in the process of rounding up locals and arresting politicians. Looks distinctly like Modi’s gearing up for some ethnic cleansing.
