If they’re copper pipes and they’re fairly solidly attached to something and if you don’t think you know much about plumbing then there is a vast capacity for pain in store for you there. Could go wrong really annoyingly and as it’s an isolation valve wrong in a “wet and no more water supply” way to boot.

Get a plumber.

Definitely get a plumber as it’s easy to put too much pressure on a pipe when undoing or tightening the valve. Also the pipe might be badly cut which is causing the leak at the connection so may need a repair.

Yeah, we are hoping to redo the whole bathroom soon (which is why it’s very irksome that there have been two “minor” plumbing jobs in three days). I definitely won’t be attempting that…

Like jon says, all it takes is for you to make one false move with the end of a pipe and you’ve got a useless pipe and a big headache.

What’s that thing called that goes along the top of the stairs and stops you falling off the edge of the second floor on to the first floor? Not a wall? It’s like a barrier

Thanks. I have heard that word all the time but couldn’t work out if it was specifically the top part. I also don’t understand where you buy one from. I want a wall instead of a spindly thing and I think that means I want a ‘dwarf wall’ which is a thing I just discovered.

The top part is the hand rail.

The balusters are the vertical uprights.

A handrail and balusters on the edge of a landing/terrace is called a balustrade.

A handrail and balusters on a staircase are often (but not always) called banisters.

If you are wanting a dwarf wall or a balustrade to act as an edge protection barrier, it needs to be a minimum of 1100mm high, and should resist the loads required under BS6399, Table 4. A decent builder will be able to advise you on how to achieve the loadings. It’s not something I’d attempt myself as a DIY thing.

An uneven mess. I mean, so bored of sorting this.

Oh and also the ceiling they put in in the en suite itself has developed a lot of weird grey mould which is resistant to every cleaner known to man. So the suppliers of the ceiling are replacing that with a pvc ceiling.

It has been a fucker and it’s 12 months after and it is still not the way it should be. At least with DIY you’ve only got yourself to blame.
