Was really underwhelmed by the cult of Luna album. Don’t think it really offers anything new and wouldn’t say it’s close to being their best work. Very plodding for the most part.

Haven’t heard it enough to form a definite opinion but on first listen I did think “this could definitely do with some more Julie Christmas”

For me it’s the first post rock album I’ve heard in quite a while that I think does offer something new, I don’t think I’ve made it all the way through the last few Pelican or Russian Circles albums in one go without getting bored but I’m really enjoying all of this

I’d disagree in that I find Salvation and Eternal Kingdom really plodding and think this one is much more interesting. Agree that it’s not really new but it’s more interesting for sure and conveys more emotion across the whole thing. They resisted the current trend of post black metal also which is good

There’s a sound to this which really makes me think of Rob Zombie - track 2 maybe i can’t remember. Can’t shake it!!

(I did enjoy what i heard overall though :-D)

Ha, can’t say I’ve spotted that, I’ll listen out for it when I inevitably listen to it at some stage today! :grinning:

It was track two! Its the chugging bits…its a bit of a stretch but once the seed is there…

Its fucking cosmic overall though - absolutely love it!

What do you think it offers that is new?

This is outstanding cheers man. They sound genuinely scary in places and you’re right, it’s a listen which stays interesting and covers various sounds without sounding forced.

Another one for the post black metal hordes. They seem to nail both sides pretty well, with a 2nd wave feel to the BM but then quite polished ‘post’ bits! Decent:

Sleeping Ancient - There is No Truth but Death

This is more powerful and a lot darker sounding french black metal. Probably one of the best black metal albums i’ve heard this year

Drastus - La Croix de sang

I listened yesterday and yeah, a wee bit of a stretch, but there is a certain resemblance now you mention it! But I don’t have a problem with that, always enjoyed a bit of White Zombie!

I’d only heard their 777 trilogy of albums before this which are good but are far more traditional black. I remember giving their last album, Deus Saultis Meae a cursory listen but never went back to it. It sounds like I need to checkout the Memoria Vetusta albums however if they’re anything like this.

Eyehategod just announced for Bristol @Old Crown Courts Friday 18th October.

Also playing Clwb in Cardiff day before.

Got a spare ticket going fir Opeth at the palladium on oct 29th if anyone fancies it

It feels like it’s got a lot more depth than the other post rock I’ve heard recently, the low end is heavier and deeper and it’s got those light melodic organ and lead guitar lines over the top. It’s not relying on chugging repetitive riffing all the time, it’s more like really (really) long ‘proper’ songs, if that makes sense?

Now I’m even more annoyed they’re only doing one UK show

I caught these guys supporting Zeal & Audor and they were great, very atmospheric black metal. More spooky than shrieking.

Oh right, I thought you were comparing it to other cult of Luna albums sorry

Anyone got on the new TNTLLY album? It’s very very good
