Une Misère album came out on Friday, very good, Icelandic, really aggressive hardcore that’s amazing in small bursts but difficult across a whole album. I always thought Iceland was kinda laid back but something has annoyed these lads.

Maybe they lost their gloves?

I’m loving the new Alcest now. At first it was kind of a disappointment - I loved the increased aggression but it seemed like it was missing a lot of the emotion of Kodama, but it’s been revealing itself with multiple listens. They’ve quickly become one of my favorite bands of the decade, and I’m excited that I still have Shelter and the 00’s material to explore.

I wouldn’t get too excited about Shelter if I were you.

You are so right. If I was @TAFH33 I’d go straight to Ecailles De Lune next. Brilliant brilliant record.

Oh yeah, Ecailles de Lune is incredible and pretty much what kicked things off for me with them this year in the album of the day thread. I’d only heard Les Voyages before, and while I still really like it and while it has a top song of theirs in Faiseurs de Mondes, Ecailles de Lune and Kodama are masterpieces. I love long songs with multiple parts and explosions.

Yeah, I’ve read that it’s not popular and that they stripped away the heaviness, but I’m still hoping there may be a hidden gem in there. I’ll probably give it a shot in a few months.

Thought you are talking about the mid 90s Krishnacore band Shelter for a moment there.

Wouldn’t get excited about them either.

Its not a bad album but its so pedestrian. If it was a new band itd be okay but its fucking Refused. I dont know why they keep tarnishing their legacy but after the reunion shows they shouldve stopped.

Missed this! Were you not up for Mayhem?

It’s better than the previous one, which was a huge pile of turd, but still. I just pretend that they vanished again.

Oh yeah that album was so poor. Its odd cause when they played their reunion shows they were electric. They still felt vital so to go so downhill is a shame but oh well

Ha, I remember them, I think I’ve got a cd of theirs somewhere.

Mantra is a great album!

I’m a quite recent convert to black metal and although I’ve tried the older “classics” such as Emperor, Bathory and Mayhem I’ve always preferred the more atmospheric stuff like WITTR.

Ah fair enough. Tbh the room and awful sound meant you didnt miss a lot

I think I saw them supporting… Biohazard maybe? I didn’t dislike them if I remember correctly

Yep, that’s the one!
