Going through one of my Meshuggah phases at the moment, sparked by this awesome new concert on YT. Don’t really know what the general opinion of them is on here but I fucking love them. Finally seeing them on this tour at Arctangent last year was like a pilgrimage. Didn’t disappoint. The heaviest thing I’ve ever seen. And the most incredible lighting. Overwhelming experience in the best possible way.

Who else is digging the new Touché Amoré album? Might be their best yet

Had seen them once before but ATG was phenomenal. Gonna pop Chaosphere on now.

Yess, nice! Props to Per Nilsson filling in for Thordendal on guitar, too. One hell of a pair of shoes to fill, but one hell of a player to do it.

how gutted would you be if you saw them and fredrik wasn’t there though. his widdly out of key solos are the best thing about them imo.

He wasn’t there at ATG haha. Hasn’t been touring with them for a while as far as I know. I do love his soloing of course and overall creative input but the shows don’t feel that lacking to me - of course you’d always prefer him there but Nilsson does a stellar job. My favourite thing about them by far has always been their approach to rhythms and groove, and that whole fast/slow, complex/simple thing they balance so well. And the sheer crushing heaviness of it all. Haake, basically.

thrown this on now, what a weird record. love it.

Never heard of them before but these popped up on my Suggested Albums and I’ve not stopped listening all weekend - epic, shoegazey metal, reminds me a bit of Aereogramme and Oceansize with the ethereal-to-crushing dynamics, Deafheaven without the black metal vocals etc. I think they’ll go down quite well in here (plus, most of the songs are less than 5 minutes long too, for @UncleRetrospective!).

it’s too hard to listen to it and not compare to Stage Four for me

New video from Respire. Blackened screamo with horns and strings. their older stuff was more black metal centred but I’m liking this. The videos shit though

I’m loving the new Raging Speedhorn album. Nothing groundbreaking but it hits that heavy riffs and shouting, The Bronx / Winnebago Deal spot hard.

YES! It’s top fun, just a relentless rush of energy gets in and out quickly.

The debut album by Lure is currently streaming on Invisible Oranges. Just had a listen through and sounds pretty awesome. They’re describing it as a cross between USBM and French black metal. Couldn’t tell you if that’s accurate but it’s raw and atmospheric which gets the high fives from me. Out on 31st Oct

Anyone fancy recommending some of their fave albums from this year… that aren’t black metal? No offence to the BM fans but it’s just not really my thing. Don’t mind some BM elements here and there but generally speaking it doesn’t do that much for me.

For reference, some current fave metal bands are Meshuggah, mid-late period Gojira, early Mastodon, Converge, Conjurer, Cult of Luna, Kvelertak, Russian Circles, Holy Fawn

Oranssi Pazuzu just tweeted a link to this cracking video for Ilmestys. Can’t see how the album won’t be high up in my AOTY list and hoping the tour can go ahead next year.

Fucking love them obviously.

The latest huntsmen album.
Sci fi prog post metal. But much better than that sounds.

Lovely, I’ll check it out. Thanks Unc.
