Rolling Heavy Music Thread 2020

yeah this was pretty nice also - cheers. Made the walk back from school very pleasant.

Being in an instrumental band myself i hate this kind of comment but…it does lack some vocals a bit. Can be a bit samey across the whole album. All very easy on the ears though.

that’s fair enough, glad you liked it. I have a soft spot for it as it is one of the most beautiful bits of vinyl I own!

(not sure why that’s not showing a preview image)

offffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffftttttt - that is sexy! Sexy enough to want to own

Is that you? I’ll start following!

it is me yes, cheers

just popped this absolute classic album on

New Heretical Sect [Doom / Black / Death]

This has some nice head nodding riffs in it from some danish upstarts… Nice atmosphere to it all. Especially not bad for a debut.

Death doom for fans of all things slow and riffy

Posted in the new releases but this is relevant here also…

(Links in the original post if anyone’s interested)

The lp from the Kverlertak frontman sounds as fun as you’d expect!

This new pg.lost record is sounding great. Interesting post-rock indeed. Convinced me that at the very least I need a ticket for whenever their gig with The Ocean and Svalbard ends up happening. February seems very optimistic, but cracking line-up. Not quite Cult of Luna/Brutus/AA Williams maybe, but not too shabby…

You guys seen the situation with Inquisition, Agonia records and Bandcamp? Not up to date with any parties involved (other than Bandcamp, obviously), but it seems like the platform have suspended orders for Inquisition’s new record on the basis of them being NS-affiliated, which is pure class. Can’t find any articles or anything about it atm but followed it through Quietus metal writer Kez Whelan’s twitter account:

Yeah, Agonia records have a rep for being a really shitty label but this is something. Really well played bandcamp.

Not that child porn isn’t enough, but the same dude has a nazi sympathising side project also. You probably don’t want to go goggling too much but the compilations he has appeared on give you an idea of how pleasant a chap he is…88MM | Discography | Discogs

The depressing thing in Inquisition have been around forever, and hardly in hiding about the nazi stuff yet they still seem to operate in the mainstream. They have a song called “Crush the jewish prophet” which i’m sure they’d defend as being anti-religious. And then there was the account from a former driver who…

I pulled off my t shirt and there it was…my giant swastika for them all to see…they clapped and cheered…Inquisition (both Tom and Jason) were thrilled.

They boasted about their admiration for Hitler, how they loved the white power movement, and had many friends from South America and Everett, Washington…turns out we had mutual acquaintances. Tom used to hang out with the World Church of the Creator and still boasts his admiration for the church. Jason boldly stated he loves imagining living in the Nazi era and wished that would happen in America. They ranted until I shut them down.

Of course, they have toured with Behemoth.

Oh, and worth noting as another band who get a pass - Deathspell Omega - have a link as 88mm stuff has come out on Mikka Aspa’s label freak animal - who again, anyone unsure about Deathspell should probably just google him, or at least look at the discogs pages for his labels.

Yeah, I did a bit of reading on Dagon last night and he seems like a horrible, disingenuous piece of shit. I read an interview - either with Metal Sucks or Metal Injection - where they very forthrightly ask him about that encounter with the driver, and what his views are, his 88MM side-project, and ‘Crush the Jewish Prophet’, and yes, his explanation was that Jesus was Jewish, so it’s an anti-Jesus song.

And you’re right, I’ve seen Inquisition talked about in so many mainstream circles and up until about 2 years ago, not once had I seen their far-right links mentioned, and still people shy away from talking about the child pornography charges.

I’ve vaguely heard about Deathspell Omega, but I’ve never been a fan of their music so have never looked deeply into them. Mikka Aspa seems like an absolute cunt of the highest order, so I steer as far away from anything he’s involved with as I can.

Soaring, immersive atmo black from Ukraine. Five 10+ minute tracks that invoke walking through snowy forests, the howling of the vocals like the frigid wind through the branches.

*evoke not invoke ffs

Been listening to these this weekend after seeing your recommendation on the Albums Of The Year thread, well into it.

The opening track is a beast.

Isn’t it? Not sure how an album by an Unsane and Cop Shoot Cop supergroup managed to pass me by first time round though…!

I’m a bit out of the loop with things, but just on the subject of labels, what’s the deal with Profound Lore? There are a few bands on there that I like, but it looks like there are a few questionable bands/personalities on the label too. Definitely makes me second guess whether I want to buy stuff on the label. Do they just release anything and everything regardless?

Yeah, they are an odd one Profound Lore. I think Chris Bruni (owner) has a business model based around…

Probably the biggest examples being Leviathan/Jeff Whitehead and DIsma. Both of whom he has released stuff by despite there being some very grim (not in the good way!) information out there about both. Leviathan seems a horrible domestic abuser - was found guilty of aggravated domestic battery and Disma have well documented right-wing views. There are others also on the label who have links to dodgy stuff or the bands who are signed themselves hold abhorrent views. Its fairly easy to find.

They have undoubtedly released some amazing albums on the label which have nothing to do with any ‘dodgy beliefs’ but unfortunately as the label continues to support bands who do hold these beliefs they are not a label i feel i can support.
I find it astounding that some of the bands on there continue to be so also i it does make me question them. Lingua Ignota for instance?!

I genuinely feel like i’m missing something with the whole profound lore thing but have never seen a reasonable response/defence from Chris Bruni so i don’t think i am! Think he probably is a no censorship/metal is dangerous kind of idiot maybe?

Worth pointing out that Converge just released a new t-shirt with the artwork done by Leviathan/Jeff Whitehead also
