Rolling Heavy Music Thread 2023

You’re not the only one! Still digesting some of the albums I missed. The Ode and Elegy album for one is something else. A single orchestral and cinematic track, with choirs, strings, emo/screamo and post metal passages. Completely passed me by last year.

name rings a bell but can’t place them - i’ll check it.

go for it with tomb mold - the LP took on another gear when i got it on record as im more likely to listen as one. brilliant stuff

(dry cough always worth a look for death metal stuff… Home / Dry Cough Records )

Missed this record early last year but it’s some pretty cracking 11-piece skronky noise prog. Maybe not heavy enough for this thread but hella good so idk

I was listening to this the other day! Nice and noisy. I remember thinking that I wished this was what Battles sounded like now (or what 10 years ago I might have wanted them to sound like). Might try and pick up the live album with the dude from Deerhoof too at some point.

A mate just sent me this, self titled debut from Edinburgh band Codespeaker that came out in November. Sludgy post metal in the vein of Cult of Luna, ISIS or Neurosis. It’s really good.

Really unfortunate that the band leader was convicted of owning and distributing child pornography as they are from my home town

Big yikes, big yeet from the playlist :grimacing:

The dodgy label’s Northern Heritage isn’t it? As far as I know the Northern Silence label is ok

Not meaning to be an arse, but please junk the expression ‘child pornography’. Pornography is made by adults, (in theory, obviously a complicated area) able to consent and willingly participating for some form of gain. Children are raped and abused. Most charities and advocacy groups I’m aware of advise terminology along the lines of child sexual abuse imagery.

Depressingly seems like the sort of thing that could come up again in a thread covering metal so seemed worth saying. Hope it doesn’t feel like I’m having a go.

I did mean Northern Heritage yes - good spot!

Worth noting though - Northern Silence is ok as a label (as far as i am aware) but they are a distro also and are well happy stocking nsbm so they don’t get owt from me. They have graveland in their store for fucks sake.

Pretty sure i heard a cat meowing in here somewhere. 10/10

This is absolutely banging. Noise rock, bit Ministry and NiN in places. Not much on the internet about them, apparently and EP called Fawn will be out soon.

This warmed my heart. It ends up sounding a lot like Jeff Rosenstock strangely.
