Hmm… their recorded stuff is leaning a bit too close to elevator jazz for want of a better word, bit of a shame

One of my favourites that.

Went back to Trust in the Lifeforce of the Deep Mystery by The Comet Is Coming. How are this band so highly rated? There’s absolutely nothing to it, the production is awful and it plods along. Zero interest in ever listening to them again.

tbh I think it’s because it has Shabaka Hutchings in it and he is one of those people who will just bring a crowd and a rating to whatever project he’s involved in. I agree with you though - I went to see them live last year (or maybe even the year before) and it was so relentlessly boring, in part because the drummer and the keys player are just not good enough to sustain anything in particular.

^THIS. ^THIS.

They’re just not up to snuff one bit. Unless you’re a much better keyboard player it’s very hard to fill in for a bass player and vibe with a drummer.

Big fan of his other projects and his playing in general, will just dodge this band in future.

Yeah. The drummer is OK but Danalogue on synths is just… maybe it’s just that he shouldn’t be playing that kind of music or in that exposed way. Agree about the bass player lacking too (but I would say that!)

Yeah I normally love Shabaka. Part of me wonders if it’s a bit of a cash cow for him, which would be fair enough. It’s an easy enough gig for him I reckon. (‘just blow hard over a backbeat’)

absolute legend RIP.

got in a silent way going right now.

Pretty sad news here, even though he did live to a good age. Now He Sings, Now He Sobs was a huge influence on our band, down to the trio format. Had a lot of conversations at rehearsals about that album and the interplay on it. I’ll always associate it with that time in my life. R.I.P. Chick.

Love that album. Also I’ve been returning to the New Trio album a lot, which is just a record of such joyful dynamic trio playing

Returned to forever

WTF??? This is incredible news. Never thought these would come out.

If you’ve never heard of him, Hasaan appeared on one album with Max Roach and that’s it. The album is incredible, totally out there piano playing.
