I think I remember reading that as well as the seat, the team didnāt have a pedal-box to suit Georges larger feet, so he was having to squeeze into boots a size to small all race to be able to get his feet onto the pedals.
I donāt remember the details of that race but Mercedes really screwed up the strategy for George IIRC, he should have won that one.
Pit stop under safety car where they put the wrong tyres on (Bottasā tyres on Russellās car and vice versa). George then had a slow puncture in the last ten laps or so when he still had a shot of the win. Stellar weekend in the circumstances that came undone right at the end.
the team fucked it but after that weekend no one was in any doubt that he deserved a move to the Merc team
if he ends up winning a load of championships people will look back and say that was one of two early races where it was obvious heād be a champ
the other being that Spa weekend where he qualified 2nd and got a podium after they ran the race behind the safety car for a few laps cos the track was basically a river
Just read up on this. Sounds like a bit of a farce

By virtue of being from Northern Ireland, a constituent country of the United Kingdom, Irvine was a British citizen throughout his career.[99] He also held a racing licence issued by the National Sporting Authority of the Republic of Ireland (drivers are not compelled to obtain their licence from their home country).[100] The FIAās International Sporting Regulations state that drivers competing in FIA World Championships shall compete under the nationality of their passport, rather than that of the National Sporting Authority that issued their racing licence, as is the case in other racing series.[101] Relating to Irvineās nationality, the FIA repeatedly mistakenly issued official entry lists that claimed Irvine was competing under the Irish nationality (e.g. entry list for the 1995 and 1996 season).[102][103]
This situation created some confusion as to Irvineās nationality when he appeared at podium ceremonies in the Formula One World Championship. During some of his early podium appearances (at the 1995 Canadian Grand Prix, 1996 Australian Grand Prix, 1997 Argentine Grand Prix and 1997 Monaco Grand Prix), an Irish Tricolour was mistakenly flown by the race organisers.[104] After the 1997 Argentine Grand Prix his family received threatening phone calls. Irvine then requested that at subsequent races, a politically neutral shamrock flag be flown, and the non-sectarian āLondonderry Airā be played to mark a victory.[100]
Irvine has self-identified as being Irish:
āBut at the end of the day, Iām Irish. I mean, Iāve got a British passport, but if youāre from Ireland, north or south, youāre Irish. And āBritishā is. . . such a nondescript thing, isnāt it?ā
theyāre having to make their own engine without the use of any Honda IP
they havenāt had the Audi advantage of extra budget for the 2026 programme as a new manafacturer, because theyāve run the Honda engine this cycle.
Ford have come on board to help with a few areas, but itās fundamentally a first engine from a new manufacturer.
Rumours have been around for a long while that theyāre behind, but the team claim theyāre hitting their own targets, they just donāt know if the targets are where they need to be.
Yeah the Audi angle was the point I lost interest the 1st time. Also the ford engine/not a ford engine. I remember at the time Honda said they were out and Red Bull were setting up the engine centre (they gave it a big fancy name if memory serves) they were really Bullish about their chances
Still first Ford engine since 2013 ish just sadly not Cosworyh
