Also one of the only albums to make group chants/“woaaahohhs” acceptable

This is so great:

its brilliant. me and my old housemate would listen to that a lot while playing mario kart and drinking

their harmonies have always been top - that Rant! album is good. bunch of sea shanty covers and the like

And Hounds of Love is an all time great cover

Rant! is absolutely brilliant, that and the first album are just fantastic

They barely put a foot wrong really! Just a very consistent band that went a bit under the radar after News & Tributes (it’s a shame that most of this has been removed from Spotify) lacked the ‘instant hit’ that their debut had.

Still one of my all time favourites too!

This would apply to dozens of indie rock records from 2004-2010 tbh

Biohazard - Urban Discipline still raw new york thrash hardcore, still great

i listened to SVIIB endlessly when it came out. heard it again recently after completely forgetting about it and it’s still heartbreakingly good

Listening to Muchacho now. Please give it another go. If you like his earlier stuff I highly recommend giving it another go!

I agree. Heartbreaking is right.

Yeah, and a lot of stuff on Olde English Spelling Bee. Got right into that.

Is that a label? Who else was on it?

Muchacho is an excellent record. I still listen to it regularly - it has a really haunting quality and I love how all the lashings of delay and reverb makes everything clatter about.

I just listened to Broken Apart by the Antlers for the first time in a good while. Had forgotten how good an album that was - strong songwriting, good arrangements and his voice is crazy. The production is lovely too, so a good record to turn up loud and get lost in.

Yeah. Is/was a label. Put out stuff by a lot of people… Ducktails, Forest Swords, Rangers, James Ferraro, plus loads of people I’d never heard of before or since.

For the most part our local festival does seem to be the place where indie bands go to die… in very muddy graves this year. But alongside a good set from Primal Scream, Maximo Park ended up being another highlight. Been revisiting A Certain Trigger since and it’s pretty great. Seem to remember seeing them headline an NME gig at Brixton with Arctic Monkeys bottom of the bill. Still prefer Maximo Park…

A - Monkey Kong

Bought it completely blind at the time, I think because I was trying to get into stuff a bit more “ROCK” and they were playing Reading. Unable to track down any youtube links, but Hoppe Jonus Fang and Jason’s Addiction are decent tracks. Not sure about the more pop punk ones like Lake Tahoe though.
