Rolling Shoegaze / Dreampop / Slowcore Thread

That’s hardly fair.

They’ve also looked at mbv’s album covers.

Ooh, I quite like this based on the little I’ve heard. Will definitely listen to the whole album.

Also, I’m not sure if the album cover is awesome or atrocious.

So gave this a proper listen on the way into work this morning and (predictably) really liked it! Think some of the back end tracks, which are a bit slower, lose the momentum a bit but the first half is wall-to-wall bangers!

Float. For FFO of fans of dreamy slowcore with lots of wintry hooks. some parts remind me of the antlers, others cigarettes after sex but without the terrible lyrics.

As a Loveless rip-off (stylistically), it’s very good. Much prefer this to the endless Lushlite rip-offs. Has some proper energy and tone bending. Great!

I gave their previous album a go as well. It’s a bit less focussed/the production varies a bit more, but it feels like they tried out a few more ideas on it. Definitely worth giving that a go too, if you enjoyed the new one.

Just wanted to give some respect to the Sunday Drive record label - for the slightly more robust grungy Shoegaze sound (shoegrunge as I like to coin it) a la Narrowhead* - they have released some real gems - Leaving Time’ Angel in the Sand was one of my LPs of last year and Fake Eyes’ Saccharine Scream not too far behind. Both were worth the shipping charge.

More recently the lead-in Glare singles promise great things for the Sunset Funeral LP and Read Only Memory’s recent Prom EP really caught my attention - not least the track Always - a hazy, heavy slice of dreamy, melancholia:

Enjoying this. So sick of wishy-washy send-me-to-sleep-gaze.

This one is nice and loud.

That Glare track is great.

FYI on Glare …

Heard a track for the first time this evening and really liked it, so Googled. Wouldn’t myself be able to enjoy them now, even with this guy gone.

While on the post-hardcore inflected heavy shoegaze vibe, though … Downward seem good.

Listened to these today. Yep, well good. Annoyingly Angel in the Sand seems sold out everywhere but the states.

Do Black Moth Super Rainbow belong in this thread or somewhere else? I don’t know, but they have had a few singles out in the last year, after a while away, including this from a week ago

Brazilian Shoegaze released on Monday, this is the high-grade stuff.

Just checked out their 2023 record too, it appears to also be the high-grade stuff.

Glad you like it! Yeah I think Juno at one stage were going to stock a copy but not sure if that happened so I ended up noticing they were having a discount promotion via the label website so I ordered directly from the label along with the Fake Eyes - and with the discount and bulk purchase it worked out in a similar ballpark to what I might pay in the UK. I think that tvery few from their stable get distributed outside the US so I am now just going to order in bulk every so often from the label and keep half an eye out for sales etc. Would love it if the label set up a UK showcase tour (like Run for Cover did last year) and then I could see them live and also stock up!

I’ve ordered the Fake Eyes LP and a Leaving Time EP from Devil Dog Distro today. Mostly punk and hardcore but they’re UK based and seem to have a fair bit of Sunday Drive stock, so might be worth checking next time you’re looking to buy something of theirs.

Thanks and hope you enjoy the records…pleased you also dig the Fake Eyes…maybe a Uk tour isnt out the question afterall!

Ugh…horrific…i think if he has left then i would be ok with the new stuff but will avoid the back catalogue…thanks for the tip…actually just read the link you sent and seen it is a recent discovery…
