Just comes across as weirdly bitter and, frankly, pretty sexist tbh. Not even sure the few verifiable facts even stack up (pretty sure she’s played Panorama Bar loads of times).

Really depressing that female DJs are still a magnet for this shit in a way that male DJs aren’t, particularly at the hands of other DJs. Remember Seth Troxler laying into Nina Kraviz in an interview in a way he’d never dream of talking about one of his male contemporaries.

Oh just clocked you probably mean the big one at Tobacco Dock or the club nights? I don’t hold out much hope of those happening until much later in the year either if at all yeah (also got a ticket held over for the all-dayer).

Maybe some of the smaller concerts might still happen in the spring though, which were meant to be at the Barbican, BFI, Oval Space - all those venues have started advertising events again tentatively.

yes, realised I didn’t make that very clear, was referring to the all day event at Tobacco Dock. The other ones start past my bedtime.

That’s good to hear about those other venues; hopefully come the spring we might be able to go out dancing again in some form.

Top 10 2020 dance related albums, EPs, 12”, mixes etc anyone? Go on then:

  1. India Jordan - For You EP (Local Action) - sometimes I have to hit the stop button immediately on this cos my mood doesn’t fit, but other times it sounds utterly fantastic and makes me very happy, so number one it is
  2. JASSS - Turbo Olé 12” (Whities 027) - Turbo Olé at 8 minutes long sounds futuristic and drives along with a hypnotic synth and flips and switches brilliantly
  3. Nikki Nair - Scuzzy 12” (Pretty Weird Records) - Dubby beat and bass with fun samples
  4. Ikonika - Your Body EP (Don’t Be Afraid) - Love this, towards the trance side of things, joyous record
  5. Jamie xx - Idontknow 12” (Young Turks) - Love a boogie to this
  6. Avalon Emerson - DJ-Kicks (!K7) - I haven’t got this excited about a DJ Kicks album in a long while. The transitions and track selection flow effortlessly and it’s just brilliant.
  7. Happa - Blue 07 12” (Whities) - Both Clip & One Three Five are adventure stories boiled down to sensational tracks
  8. Rødhåd - PHOTON Livestream ARTE Concert - Hypnotic, meditative techno. Watched this multiple times during lockdown, the best in the business for me.
  9. Helena Hauff - United We Stream ARTE Concert - Gothic techno if that is such a thing. Watched this multiple times during lockdown, the best in the business for me.
  10. Luke Vibert/Wagonchrist - bit of a cop out at the end. He has released 4 fantastic albums this year, can’t split any of them.

I’ve left out so much stuff DJ Plead, Pearson Sound, Minor Science, Surgeon, Park Hye Jin, HAAi, Theo Parrish, Hodge, DJ Pyton, Nicolas Jaar etc etc the list goes on and on, it’s been such a great year in some ways.

This type of music has pique my interest for many years now so I look forward to all the recommendations and politics in the year to come x

Some great picks there - would also go for Avalon DJ Kicks (and the recent AD93 single), Turbo Ole, Hodge album, Rodhad Photon (also really enjoyed his HOR Berlin set).

Other records, albums, mix picks I’ve enjoyed:

Bergsonist - Middle Ouest (Optimo Music)
Beatrice Dillon - Workaround (PAN)
Anz - Loos in Twos (Hessle Audio)
VA - Fuga I compilation (Token)
Russell EL Butler - Constructions Vol 2 (self-released)

NDRX - RA mix
Sherelle - Dekmantel mix
Jon Starks - Nov 9 HOR set
Blawan - United We Stream, Tempelhofer Feld
CCL, Roza Terenzi, D.Tiffany - Nov 12 HOR set

Also loved the first few tapes in the Climate of Fear mix series, from Bruce, Nkisi, Polar Inertia, Bambounou, and Elena Colombi.

Blawan’s fucked it, after complaining fairly vocally in the spring about DJs playing at plague raves, he played one in Kiev for NY, moaned about flight trouble getting home and got angry when he was called out:

Enjoyed this comment:

Perhaps generously I’m reading “you know nothing of my circumstances” as “I needed the money” but fucking hell this is a bad look.

Lol. As for Peggy Gou in Mykonos in the summer or whatever, the R rate was so low and the gigs outside, they were in places populated almost exclusively young people, so y’know, folks got to get paid and stuff. Wasn’t overly critical about it but I appreciate why people are/were.

Now with the cases up, transmission rate high, gig spaces indoors etc. it’s a much more controversial decision.

I don’t personally judge DJs too harshly for playing gigs where they’re legal now either given a complete lack of work opportunities, but you have to know it’s a decision you’re likely to come under fire for, should prepare for criticism, and definitely shouldn’t be a complete dick about it. That’s my take away from this, just the guy coming across as a bit of a douche in general, rather than anything about playing the plague rave.

At least the party was fire, was worried for a moment.

one of my favourite live stream things during the first lockdown was her playing a set from her apartment, with a fag pretty much permanently on the go and flicking the light switch on and off to simulate a strobe light

The new RA site is shite isn’t it? Looks completely bland, not user friendly, half the links are dead.

Tax payer money well spent.

Hilariously including the link to the to story on the front page about them launching a new site!

Only went to check it based on your post and it’s strangely almost the same as before but s bit shitter. At least on the listings.

I suppose they’ve had to find something to keep themselves busy for the last 9 months.
