Same as ‘Era’, I think it’s a Russian version of Irene
Like Myra without the M I think yeah, a lot of Americans are called Ira aren’t they? Always find it quite funny.
that’s my brain calling him I.R.A Kaplan for the rest of my life then
Oh yeah forgot about him
I just saw he’s a pensioner!
good for him
loads of people are called Ira, although I’ve only ever known it to be men (Ira Glass, Ira Levin, Ira Gershwin…)
Certainly in Ira Gershwin’s case it’s a diminutive of his real first name Israel.
The I is silent.
There’s an American guy on twitter who has the handle @ira
Oh he’s not there any more, seemed innocuous enough
Needless to say, it’s in today’s Torygraph
Not really at it but made me laugh all the same
I did not expect to repeatedly explain that NI is in the UK and my driving license is a UK driving license.
I did not realise people were so ignorant of the country they grew up in
You should try paying with some NI currency and see what happens.
Stunning stuff here
To be fair the original tweet isn’t much better
