And as has been pointed out to him, you can’t get a double first in modern history from Oxford.
Apparently it means you did well in your first year exams too? The ones that don’t count for anything. What an odd man.
Fianna Fáil didn’t win every election since 1932 either lol. Some good stuff on this hashtag though

Sorry I realise I am late to this, but never one to pass up an opportunity to ask marckee to apologise for being wrong, You can get a double first in oxford. At the end of your second term (for most degrees) you sit Moderations (mods). The result doesn’t count towards your final degree class but the outcome determines whether you are sent down, rusticated (slap on wrist, maybe temporary suspension if v bad), kept on the course with no changes (the vast majority of people), given a first class award (which then entitles you to say colloquially that you have double first if you go on to get a first in finals), and for some you may also get an award such as exhibitioner/ scholar which gives you cash, a fancier gown to wear at hall and some dubious bragging rights.
Your final degree cert won’t say ‘double first’ but it is certainly commonly and widely recognised as such and will appear on people’s CVs as such. I got a 2:1 and my degree cert says ‘second class honours’, but it doesn’t mean I didn’t get a 2:1. Oxford is a bit mad.
Take it up with David Allen Green
Edit: that link doesn’t work.
“I did the very same Modern History degree at Oxford at the same time. Exact contemporaries, 1990-93. There was and is no such thing as a “Double First” in Modern History. The classification of the first year Honour Moderations does not go to the final degree result.”
Think we all can just agree that both Daniel Hannon and Oxbridge are ridiculous
love that james joyce was a socialist. love that the brits cannot handle this.
imagine giving a fuck about oxford or getting a first when you’ve read dubliners and realised it speaks to your very soul, lmao
