I think England vs Algeria at 2010 might also be a contender for that crown.

So boring that a bird managed to settle on top of one of the goals without being disturbed.

Or the king of stinkers. A match so godawful that it basically forced Fifa to change their rules so the last two group fixtures needed to be at the same time.

I don’t think it counts when teams are playing deliberately badly

Well, Fifa have decided to put full classic, in other words, eventful matches on their Youtube channel: Netherlands vs Spain 2014; Brazil vs Germany 2014, Brazil vs France 1986, for example.

I just like the perverse idea of them putting up the complete opposite on their Youtube channel: here is the most boring, anti-football match ever played. Watch it in full!

@moderators - you can move all the football posts to the football thread if you want?

I’ve seen highlights (lowlights?) from that match but have never watched the full thing. I have time I suppose!

Legend has it Icelandic state TV is playing that game on a daily basis, that was long before anything to do with Coronavirus though.

NEIN

Football chat is totally fine in here, especially as the Irish team of Italia '90 was referenced.

Should televise a Fifa20 esports tournament or something.

We’ve got Fifa 12 (or something - it was 50p), should do it on that just for the added comedy and wonky and expressionless character animations

Not sure if the picture quality will be great from a match from 1975

:face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I give it 3 weeks before we get a double bill of the 66 world Cup final and the dambusters/great escape.

Both teams were accused of match-fixing, although FIFA ruled that neither team broke any rules.

Oh aye, at the expense of an African team? Colonial powers at it there…

I do find the topic fascinating and would love to discuss it in more detail, but I fear I’m going away from the topic of “The Brits” and into the topic of “general racism in the World Cup”, which seems beyond the remit of this thread. Maybe we should move this chat to the football thread.
