I think with the right build it could be a really interesting match. dolph’s entire moveset is basically desperation counters anyway isn’t it, so he’s kind of perfect for lesnar. so storywise I think it’d be great, but obvs vince has to think about the money and dolph just isn’t a mania main event draw, sadly.

like, the 2014 rumble they fucked up a bit because bryan was right there and ready, but 2015 idk what else they could do really. obvs they couldn’t risk bryan so soon into his comeback, and anyone else the crowd would be happy with (dolph, bray, ambrose) wasn’t really mania main event standard. that said, the way went about it with kane/show teaming up to eliminate everyone was just about the worst possible way to do it

I remember watching that Rumble. God, the crowd absolutely hated Rey for coming out No. 30 and it’s not like they hate him, it’s just they wanted Bryan so much. I think that made Rey leave and Batista has commented before, the booking of him was not good, so he left too. Such a mess.

The post-Bryan WWE is so weird. They know they’re too big to fail now, their profits are independent of ticket sales and ppv draws, and their TV ratings and ad revenue stay pretty much the same regardless of bad booking so it doesn’t matter who they push and how.
It’s literally just up to Vince’s taste now. So weird.

Ehhh well depends how you look at it. AOL/Time Warner cancelled wrestling on its channel because it stopped making money and selling tickets, and the execs who were snobbish about it being on their tv channel could lobby with more force. Imho this is mainly down to the awful, awful booking. The same could happen to Vince but it’s actually looking like he could become independent of tv completely in the future.

the thing is this time of year is always going to get low ratings, there’s one kinda meaningless SD ppv left to go, then January comes and we’re on the “Road to WRESTLEMANIA!!!” so it will pick up again. It will always do solid enough numbers that it’s not in danger from USA network

I think 2015 RR is the worst because it had that amazing Cena - Lesnar - Rollins triple threat and then followed it up with one of the worst, most poorly-booked Royal Rumble matches ever.

They got The Rock booed ffs.

I watched that one while high in Amsterdam, missed my flight the next day but it was worth it (found that Rumble VERY funny)

Anyway, The Rock deserved to be booed after his garbage 2011-13 run

Somewhere between Chamber and Mania I think, they finally conceded to overwhelming feedback. At Chamber it became clear Batista wasn’t the face anymore, he could visibly barely believe it.
