I can’t imagine anyone having the time or enthusiasm to do anything but watch the odd clip here and there in all honesty.

well it will be on Survivor Series so not just raw centric

I often wonder where I get it from tbh

I found out recently that wasn’t the first time this happened, ecw did a wee invasion angle in the mid 90s for promotion/had a deal with Vince

Yeah! Theres a bit where Heyman calls Lawler out for alleged noncing iin the ring during a segment. Lawlers pop when he shows up at ecw is mental

Im thinking of watching old ECW cause im gonna stop raws soon. Only ever seen one show and played ECW Anarchy Rulz so I know barely anything. Apparently the Dudleys were ludicrously offensive

Lawler in that 1997 invasion (particularly when he turns up at the ecw arena with rvd and sabu working heel and trying to ruin the show) is absolutely stellar, absolutely up there with any heel work I’ve ever seen. Extremely Crappy Wrestling

From about 2 minutes on in this is complete genius

Yeah their whole thing was really seriously winding up the crowd, trying to incite riots etc. I’ve only seen a wee bit of ecw but I have I’ve enjoyed, also OSW’s reviews of them

Lawler as a heel was golden. Theres a video on youtube of his best bits and its comedy. Bret Hart is wrestling someone and Lawler is in the crowd interviewing and mocking his parents and is outrageous

Yeah think ill defo have a gander ! I wanna see some FBI stuff ha

Obviously the big two straight up lifted a lot of the hardcore stuff, the faked shoots, using actual/better music, mixing up styles from mexico and japan and mma all off ecw and just toned it down slightly, gave it more glamour.
But the weirdest bit was ecw interwove every single storyline they had - they all linked to each other in strange ways (as evidenced in the vid above) almost like an actual soap opera. Don’t think even lucha underground does that these days, it was bizarre. Effective though.

Certainly sounds interesting! At the Raws now theres barely any storylines, probably holding off for the invasion but its just people having matches really, aside from the main event stuff

RVD and Jericho (and as always Kurt Angle) in particular become real treats around that time though
Also funny how much they were pushing Rhyno, and how much of a joke they always pretended Big Show was. Like iirc the commentators would literally be like yeah he’s massive but nobody cares about him. And well, 15 years later…

Yeah Jericho ia really pushing on at the minute. Regal is great as well . They proper toned edge and christian down which is odd as they were hilarious when given free reign.

Big Show is woefully misused, he was a real beast abd shouldve been shown as this unstoppable monster, instead hes feuding for the hardcore tifle

Don’t worry weirdo heel christian and his ridiculous mesh suits and opera theme is coming soon, that’s all hilarious.

That opera theme ia genuinely cracking. Theres a bit where the singer screams something like el mundo, el mundo something theb just kicks in again. Belter.

Best theme is Rob Conways
