Did anyone see all the kick back about this?

Nooo!!

Out of curiosity I plugged in a reasonably valuable record that I’d like to get rid of (Whiskeytown’s Strangers Almanac) to see what they’d offer me.

ÂŁ7.36

Any info on what the actual program was for those that don’t know?

Nvm just saw it in the other thread. The name too, lol. Tone deaf. “We buy houses” vibes.

Such a shit shop. They have been a rip off for ages. Get by on name alone

Didn’t know what this was

I like the rough trade east space for in stores and the book range but yeah the prices are an absolute joke and the range is actually poor for a shop of that size. It’s more about how many ‘rough trade exclusive’ colours they can stock.

It was probably a sign of things to come when they opened that strange under a clothes shop branch in soho and there’s bins of supposed ‘rare’ stuff in shocking condition at overly high prices. I do wonder if they’ve had a change in management/direction

Buying anything from the website in the last few years has become an ordeal too. If it’s not a preorder it’ll usually take weeks to arrive. Also ordered a couple of books from them last year and they arrived damaged, got some replacements which were also damaged so gave up and got a refund.

During the lockdown most places tried to improve their online offering, Rough Trade decided to do the opposite.

Moved their warehouse to Bristol didn’t they? Which caused a lot of the problems if memory serves.

I remember moving to London in 2009 and within a week I went down to Rough Trade East because of its reputation and it blew my mind - the range of stuff I could never get in my local town’s HMV just completely opened up my tastes. Ended up walking out with Shackleton Three EPs.

Even little things like having “The Wire” magazine prominently displayed made me buy a copy and opened my mind even more.

Really disheartening to walk in after a few years and see them peddling the “Essentials” for £5 more than anyone else.

I started out going to the ‘east’ one when it was in the basement of slam city skates in Covent Garden and it was just a treasure trove of obscure American band lps and 7s as well as short run uk indie stuff. It just feels a world away from that now.

Ditto I remember the gigs in the basement too which were ace, although I know middle-aged me would be intolerant of how cramped it was down there these days.

Something that keeps bubbling up in my Discogs ‘most valuable’ collection is Gorillaz’ DoYaThing. You can’t buy a copy for less than £350 there.

FlipVinyl are offering…

…or 0.000257% of its lowest Discogs purchase price.

A record I sold for 370 a few weeks back:

Mmm, reasonable

Everyone else is getting these bad offers from them, but I put in one of my prized 12"s and they quoted me 116x the going rate on Discogs.

Not that I’d ever sell it

You have to wonder whilst they’re doing this other than to fuck with sisterray. Can’t imagine they’re keeping that basement shop that’s about two streets away unless their business expansions strategy is Starbucks
