Think it’s just more evidence that these people really weren’t expecting to win and aren’t entirely sure what to do now they have. This certainly isn’t the person an administration with a clear and cohesive plan for government appoints as its mouthpiece.
Beyond saying stupid shit in the first place it’s the incompetence or possibly arrogance it takes for nobody to think it an idea to cover tracks now in power that confuses me. Maybe you don’t have to worry about things catching up with you if you’ve decided to lie about everything despite what tangible evidence exists.

this whole crowd thing is just a big fucking distraction. Yeah the ‘alternative facts’ thing is particularly mental, but its not even the most mental thing he’s done since inaugurated.

I think part of it is that the team in charge are not part of the GOP establishment, and so they don’t care about legacy or winning further elections in the same way.
His team are a mix of grifters and people who genuinely think that a reckoning would sort the wheat from the chaff. They are out to make as much as they can and/or cause as much damage as they can.
Oh yeah, there’s a quote somewhere from Spicer where he says that his doctor says it’s okay.
