Some of these came to my mind, hard to choose sad songs from a library full of them.

Elliott Smith - (Every single song)
Xiu Xiu - Ian Curtis Wishlist
The Microphones - I’ll Not Contain You
Joy Division - Atmosphere/Heart and Sould/Decades
Mogwai - CODY/R U Still Into It
Giles Corey - No One Is Ever Going To Want Me
LCD Soundsystem - Someone Great
Shoes and Socks Off - Made
Waxahatchee - Bathtub
Ellie Greenwich - You Don’t Know

And this which I listened to earlier today:

I’LLLLL TAKE, A QUIET LIFE
A HAAANDSHAKE, OF CARBON MONOXIDE

Interpol - Pioneer to the Falls

For sure.

Or anything off Berlin
My dad playing that record all the time was probably a formative event in my life

Without exaggeration, the closest thing another person has come to conveying my everyday feelings word for word. A beautiful, perfect work from a beautiful, perfect man.

That Sibylle Baier album is definitely one of my favourite of all time, its imagery and songwriting is right up there with yer Cohens, Nick Drake, etc. But there’s this vulnerability and quiet hopelessness in the voice and lyrics that just makes it one of the most heartbreaking and melancholy listens out there. Love it so much.

I think this is about the fifth time I’ve posted this on DiS. Heartbreaking rendition of an already sad song.
