Really like the album, a lot of growth in his songwriting from before and some beautiful vocals, but at the same time it makes me wonder if we’re past peak neo-soul revival. I’m not sure I’m really getting anything I’ve not heard before here, and several years ago. Sure there are some tasteful glitches and breakbeats but the production doesn’t excite me much.
Maybe I’m asking too much of him (guess I was expecting a lot with the hype), but with a lot of ground covered and leading artists barely releasing music, I wonder if we’ve not reached the same point that the genre fizzle out last time.
