Merry Xmas! 2016 is almost over!
Come help us wave good riddance to this most calamitous of years.
Guest DJ Paul Rains of Allo Darlin’ makes a welcome return to HDIF. He last DJ-ed for us on New Year’s Eve and played a superb set, so we’re very happy to have him back.
We’ll also be marking 45 years to the day since the release of “Hunky Dory”, David Bowie’s masterpiece. It was released on the 17th of December, 1971, and has remained a magical presence in the world ever since. It’s the album I’ve turned to most this year, the album that somehow gave me what I needed most: a sense of friendship, a sense of wonder, a sense that you can make mad leaps of faith and everything will turn out fine, more than fine. You can get Rick Wakeman to play the piano. You can cover a song also recorded by Tiny Tim. You can draw a line in the sand and invite your friends to join you, be a pretty thing driving your mamas and papas insane, no matter who you are or how old you are or anything. You can find life on Mars right here.
And if the homework brings you down
Then we’ll throw it on the fire
And take the car downtown
We’ll play every song from “Hunky Dory” over the course of the night.
Let’s see this stupid year off together.
Fear is in your head
Only in your head
So forget your head
And you’ll be free
