This one is a bit better because it is collected (translated) Japanese folk tales, so there is a fair bit of variation within the general themes covered. I’ll tell you one thing though, traditional Japanese storytelling really knows how to end on an anti-climax.
My favourite story I have read recently was about a painter who’s house caught fire, he rushed out leaving his family inside, and excitedly set to painting the flames because he realised he had been painting them wrong for years.
