It gets really, really warm.
The hottest gig that I have ever been to was MKS at the Scala.

I’m going in a mankini
Thanks again for the tips, all. What a day! My lad came down from Uni and we started off early afternoon with a pint in the Euston Tap, surely one of the greatest pubs in the world.
Then we went to the British Library and looked at lots of books that were hundreds of years old and had our minds blown, plus some notebooks from The Beatles and Monty Python.
We then walked to Exmouth Market, stopping of at a French cafe for a flat white and an almond tart (can’t remember the name). We couldn’t really decide where to eat in Exmouth Market, I wanted to go to Moro because I have the cookbook but the price put me off a bit so ended up getting fish finger sarnies in the Exmouth Arms which was pretty meh, but the beer was good. I wish we’d gone to Moro.
We then headed up and along the canal to Coal Drops Yard and got a peach tea from the only Waitrose I’ve ever seen with a bar. What a great place to hang out. Shiny, happy people everywhere, just chilling - there was a jazz band playing on a river boat, there was a cycle-ball competition which we watched for a bit.
We then went to the Saint Martins final show, followed by some excellent craft beer in the student bar for £5 a pint where we people watched lots of beautiful young art students acting young and beautiful, but the show went above out heads.
Then it was Horsegirl at the Scala, my favourite current band, who were brilliant, but the set was a bit short (50 minutes, no encore), but they went down a storm and a decent mix of different generations, with plenty of original post-punks but a few kids as well. I really like the Scala as a venue. There was a 9.30 curfew and we managed to get on the 9.50 train home from Euston and were tucked up in bed by 11.30.
Just a perfect day, really, that we’ll remember for years.
This is lovely.
Ah, that’s amazing. Hope I get to do days out like that with my son (not looking likely given his current music taste but who knows).
Yeah, I feel very lucky that I get to go to gigs with my lad, but also sad for him because, as much as we enjoy each other’s company, he’d obviously rather go with his mates but doesn’t have any mates to go with because his generation don’t generally go to these kinds of gigs. I have so many amazing memories of going to wild gigs with my mates as a teenager, and he doesn’t get to experience that. On the plus side for him, I pay for the tickets.
And I’m back in London this week to see Olivia Rodrigo with my daughter.
