Frusciante is a fantastic musician. He pretty much had to relearn how to play the guitar after emerging form his drugs issues so it makes sense that Californication (the album) is put together with such simple parts. His sense of melody is impeccable. The album isn’t great all the way through but the peaks are very high indeed.
