For me, it remains a favourite because it was the most mortifying takedown of my own schtick (lanky indie dude who isn’t a douche like the jock guys (but was, of course, very much a douche)).
The books were to me just perfect. The film did them justice to an extraordinary level (IMO the best-adapted graphic novel of all time).
And the new anime… can we talk about that? I don’t want to spoil it if you’re yet to watch it.
Obviously it’s great, it’s all great, especially Kim in the comics, though I wish the film or the anime had done that running joke about Scott saying he doesn’t drink when he clearly does.
It’s a real shame Ellen Wong didn’t become a big star after the film.
there’s a little moment in the film when someone calls him out on being absolutely wasted when he says he’s not a drinker, but yeah it only happens the once!
BTW i thought the anime had one of the single best ways of doing a rug-pull on the audience, not least with the trailers giving away absolutely NOTHING.
Think the movie is the best adaptation of a comic/graphic novel ever tbh.
Considering the books weren’t finished before the movie came out its quite the feat.
The book ending was also different enough when it landed so as not to be redundant either.
The big differences being the film didn’t really tackle Scott being not great either and Cera not really playing it like the books Scott.
The game is really great.
Saw the band do the game soundtrack live and it was good but they kind of rattled through it super fast and the whole thing was very very weeby.
The new show any good?
The animation they did back at the time of the movie was good where it covers the Lisa story from the books.
I’ve it queued up on Netflix and will get on it soon
Probably just worried that after loving every adaptation so far and going back to the well with the same cast as the movie that they were tempting fate.
Your review is reassuring me tho!
