One of the best gigs I’ve been to (in terms of depth of line-up) was The Twilight Sad supported by Conquering Animal Sound and Honeyblood. Amazing night.

Stina’s singing voice doesn’t sound overtly Scottish to my ears, but here we are anyway

About 10 years ago it seemed like we were absolutely awash with Scottish indie rock

If it’s a really strong accent you’re after…

Been re-listening to Frightened Rabbit’s Midnight Organ Fight a lot lately.

There’s so much about this album that I wouldn’t ordinarily like, and I remember at the time expecting that my love for it would fade, that it’s a tad MOR (and folky! the worst of all the rootsy genres!) for my tastes, and that, as with Coldplay’s debut, I’d suddenly decide that it’s dead boring, but it just hasn’t happened. It really is an album chock full of brilliant songs, intelligent lyrics (this from someone who doesn’t really give a toss about lyrical depth), and exhilarating production, along with the kind of coherence that turns a collection of songs into an album.

One of my top 10 albums of the 21st century, I reckon.

Strangely, though, I have no desire to listen to any of their other releases…

I went to school with the drummer from Broken Records #claimtofame

(I wasn’t much of a fan. They were alright, I guess)

I’m disappointed to only be learning about this band now.

Sorry

Ooh! Was he a nice fella?

Tbh I wasn’t a big fan either

Aye, he was fine. We weren’t pals or anything, he was a few years below me and I saw him very occasionally at uni afterward

I think @BMS1 got me onto these, but Broken Chanter are brilliant, and the singer seems like a decent chap.

Quite like Martin from De Rosa’s solo record too

Wow this post has taken me back to being in the Glasgow music scene around that time.

Fun fact: I nearly accidentally destroyed CAS’s second album by spilling a drink on Jamie’s laptop

Ooft :grimacing::rofl:

That sort of thing should show up in album credits

It’s such a great and special album. Really think it’s one of the few best of the last decade.

I saw then at The Lexington early last year as a support band. Never heard anything by them and then really loved their set.

Yes! They played local to me late 2019 and it was a great little show.

Omg how did I forget Spook School.

I guess this means Kid Canaveral broke up? That was the singer’s previous band. I gigged with them once or twice when I was at uni. They were pretty great.
