In Dutch a seal is a Zeehond and in German Seehund (sea dog) if that helps.

Interesting seal fact- they reckon that when men on ships were seeing mermaids and swooning over them and that, they were probably just mildly hallucinating and it was seals they were looking at. These scurvy ridden souls were looking at innocent seals and imagining they had tits.
