Haha I was going to read the AV Club review at lunch! And I agree a standalone series would leave much more of statement. I don’t know much about TBS as a network; are they one of these stations that renews a show into the ground?

I definitely thought that Alia Shawkat held the series together and was very strong as a leading role. Hopefully she gets a few more parts off this even if it’s just the lead in some indie films.
I watched the first ep, is it worth continuing with

It’s quite fun and easy going. Like Brainfeeder said above, give it until episode three.

Oh no I’ve spoiled it! Should be able to blur within blurs.
And yeah I want to see Alia Shawkat in as much stuff as possible (because I have a crush on her).

What did you spoil?

I think only Brainfeeder and myself have seen it the whole way through…

The AV Club review; a terrible joke for which I can only apologise

Think I was just being a bit slow on the intake to be honest!

Just having a look at the ratings and seems unlikely that it’ll be renewed:

Not to put you off @TKC

Second series confirmed:

Nooooooooooooooooo

sigh my thoughts exactly…

Started watching this on your All4s. Really like the first five or so episodes I saw – was almost put off by the main characters after the first one, but am finding them to be weirdly likeable (Maeby and her boyfriend, anyway).

I dig the tone. Also, some sweet music, too.

Also getting a bit of a Life is Strange vibe, though the writing in this is decent instead of endearingly patchy with spells of unintentional hilarity.

Bumping this thread again, as a Johnny-come-lately. Really loved this show, and kind of want everyone to watch it on All4 so that All4 def. broadcast the next season as well.

A proper Breaking Bad feeling of panic / dread in the final moments, there.

Loved that ending! What do you think about them making a second series?

I think there’s potential for more, as someone said upthread; but also, it would be fine for them to end it there. At the very least, I want to look into the creative team more (I knew Michael Showalter, but apparently the other two had collaborated on a film before this, which I might check out) cause there’s just so much I liked about this.

I’m reading V. at the moment, and got a real Pynchon / Crying of Lot 49 feel at points in this. It’s nice to see a TV show feeling this fully-formed and smart without blowing its own trumpet about being really “important” or whatever.

Exactly because the universe and the characters felt so fully formed for it just to be the solitary season, I would have felt quite satisfied. I’m cautious about a second series but I would definitely watch it especially if it was available to binge in the same manner as the first series. Like I said upthread Dory, Drew and Elliot covering up the murder has real potential that is if it doesn’t all just turn into sobbing and arguing .

In regards to Michael Showalter, have you seen Wet Hot American Summer?

I have. I’ve only seen it once, but I remember liking it quite a lot (not to the extent of some people, but I found it charmingly ramshackle and occasionally really inspired) – the Netflix prequel series didn’t really grab me, but maybe I should give it another try.

I saw an interview with the two other creators, and was pretty pleased to see they seem to respect that they’ll have to put a lot of thought into how a second season would pan out.

Ah okay? I’ve not seen or read any interviews with the creators. Where did you see that? Like I said, I’m invested enough in the core characters to get excited for the second series even if it ‘might’ become tedious.

Wet Hot American Summer seems to Showalter’s only major writing credit. I enjoyed both series and film but like Search Party, neither blew my mind…

Bearing in mind, I finished this a couple of weeks ago, I just remembered how funny Tunde Adebimpe’s guest appearance was :grinning:
