Firswood tram stop! And the 86 bus is direct and as quick to town as the tram is from chorlton to town.

Which reminds me stretford is a good shout for ā€œup and comingā€ and transport.

it’s defs much better than four/five years ago (more years? how long has it been? :open_mouth:)

We looked at Stretford when we were buying our 1st house 5 or 6 years ago it were ā€œup and comingā€ then and all.

Any1 mentioned Altrincham? It’s not Manchester, but it is definitely a nice place to live.

Really expensive. The brother of one of my wife’s mates bought a house that was smaller than our old house for nearly twice as much as we paid for ours.

Oh is it? My mate is paying very little there, maybe that’s because he’s renting a room in a friend’s house then.

I haven’t been back to Manchester in years.

All of this chat is making me quite nostalgic.

I believe it one of those that doesn’t have a mid range market they are either really expensive or really cheap and a bit shit no inbetween.

Well the company I work for just put tens of millions into it and there’s also some activity at the old essoldo, plus the food hall know too. Think it’s a good shout tbh.

Not budget friendly and lots of Cheshire set wannabes

What about Urmston? Although I believe the train can be a bit of a nightmare.

Edit: Sorry that wasn’t meant to be a direct reply.

oh yeah, I would think it’s improved a fair bit since.

I’ll check with my Levy pals tho.

there are certainly a few nice bars and etc that have opened in recent years - Fred’s Ale House, Overdraught (awful name), Talleyrand, and there’s Trove for nice baked things and whatnot.

10 years ago Levenshume was literally the worst place in Manchester I think, still a bit surprised it’s trendy now

From my experience of living on the boarder of each I think Stretford/ Levy are similar propositions in that they are still relatively affordable places that are clearly going through some kind of regeneration. They’re not comparable to Chorlton/ Didders.

I don’t think money or artisan markets or foodhalls will really address the issues they have/ had. If gentrification takes hold and house prices rocket, that’ll probably do it.

@Tuna feel free to not say what it is obviously, but your budget for initially renting may be key. I imagine the difference to London is sizable.

i want to live everywhere at once :frowning:

We currently pay Ā£1650 p/m for a 1 bed flat. Sizeable doesn’t begin to cut it. We’d be looking to halve that, ish, which seems very doable

Moved up from London to Didsbury 3 and a bit years ago. Not budget friendly and a bit gentrified, but nice area. Now that we’ve got a kid we’re looking to move to Sale or somewhere similar to get a bigger place, potentially a bit further out like Timperley. But don’t think there’s much going on and probably doesn’t meet your criteria.

I’ve heard good things from mates about heading a bit closer in to town, Stretford/Trafford sort of area (bits of it are nice, bits of it aren’t). Had some friends live near Ancoats which was rough and gradually becoming not cheap, but also ā€˜up and coming’  and means you’re close to the northern quarter where there’s a lot going on.

Heard good stuff about Chorlton too, Didsbury but cheaper and a bit cooler. Don’t know how true that is as haven’t ever made it that far over.

Also I love Manchester, so glad I moved. And would also be up for meeting more of you cool cats.
