Sense of Purpose

So I’ve been doing some of the usual bullshit training at work and one of the questions the trainer asked yesterday was: ‘Do you have a sense of purpose in life?’ Everyone else in the room put their hand up but me. So,

Do you have a sense of purpose?
What is it?
If not, does it bother you?

No I do not, and no it does not bother me.

Happy to be a pinball bouncing around the table.

I do. But I don’t know what it is. If that makes sense.

Nah. Nobody does really. Parents will spaff on about their kids but that’s just a smokescreen.

Nope.

It does not, actually. :woman_shrugging:

To live a quiet life.

also to make sure that my mother retains her independence and has as high a quality of life as possible for the rest of her life

Absolutely not and anyone who is sure they do is a danger

(Even if their purpose is something cool and admirable like “build socialism” or whatever)

Life feels inherently purposeful, but I struggle to pin it down to one/a few things as to why.

Well that’s what most people were saying ‘I didn’t have a sense of purpose until I had my kids and now I understand what my life is all about’. Whilst I understand it it irks me quite a lot when people say it cause it’s a bit patronising to people who don’t have kids, isn’t it?

My life is like a computer game where it is no longer any way to get to the next level, so I am aimlessly pottering around, driving round backwards, waiting for the clock to run down, so no

Don’t worry, once the kids grow up the sense of purpose quickly evaporates again

I can often make out dolphin shapes out of the corner of my eye. Sometimes I can hear their chirruping calls.

You might say … I have a sense of PORPOISE.

Literally the complete opposite of this

I don’t have a sense of purpose really beyond wanting to be happy and wanting eveyrone around me to be happy… but that doesn’t mean that I don’t do everything that I do with purpose, if that makes sense.

Ok that makes sense

I mean, I am driven to materially provide for her and I will do pretty much anything to ensure her happiness, but it’s all recursive, isn’t it? Like, what’s her purpose in life?

What those people mean is a sense of obligation, or a sense of duty. Idk.

(don’t get me wrong I love my kids)

Does writing this out not make you want to ‘seize the day’ and do something or take some risks?
