Was a big fan of the scene where she danced to Rock Around the Clock - even though you know that song to death, it made it feel as exciting as it must have felt in that era. So many good scenes!

Yes that was brilliant! It really tricked my mind for about 15 seconds.
I thought the character played by Borys Szyc was really well written. Heās obviously a party man through and through, and is jealous of Wiktor, but at the same time has empathy (sending him back to Paris via Zagreb, getting him released from the labour camp).
quite liked Searching, had some good twists and it would be good to watch again to see what hints there are the nickname of the school being Catfish is a bit cheeky but the ending is well too much explanation, and the news report bits take you out of it. much more fun when its the Dad investigating online
what I like about this and Unfriended is how it uses the gimmick to drop in neat litltle bits which catch you eye (eg seeing messages from characters in inboxes)

Yeah, Cold War was excellent. The various dualities throughout are so well done without ever being explicit or distracting. Particularly loved the transitions from rousing compositions and choreographies to just sharp pausing silences of reality. Joanna Kulig is so brilliant in it.
I think I like it more than Ida.

Unfortunately had a pair of performative laughter twonks in my screening. You understand jokes in a subtitled black and white art house film. Well done.

I watched this fairly recently and it left me a bit cold. I didnāt really connect with it at all.
Purely out of interest, what did you and @roastthemonaspit like about it so much?
Been a few years since Iāve seen it (going to see the restoration this evening) but the way it looks, the way it made me feel like we were peering in to a group of peopleās lives rather than actors - also have semi-relateable feelings to the presence of a father you never connected with etc etc. I can see why people might find it a bit cold - the narrative doesnāt welcome you in easily. But it had a massive effect on me when I first saw it.

I laughed quite a few times, think thereās a fair few humourous scenes (them agreeing to sing about Stalin for example). I am Polish though so maybe a different context to UK viewers.
Oh yeah, it was funny in places for sure.
Just remembered a really excellent bit when sheās finished singing that beautiful song and he looks at her and gives her that nod. Fuck.
Just back from yer Searching. I quite liked it, sometimes felt like some weird James Ferraro version of a thriller - particularly liked going into the spooky old abandoned Windows XP computer for some reason and the fact that Iām a pro detective who figured it out partway through (this didnāt make me think the film was predictable or anything).
I assumed thereād be a tiny detail that was really important, so made a mental note when one of the contacts in the mumās old computer jokingly mentions that he has a crush on the daughter; and that the detective talks about having protected her son through lies in the past, which son crops up in the bg a few times looking anxious
Might apply to the fbi tbh

Was never sure if Unfriended was worth watching. Was there another one released around the same time that was shite?

The first Unfriended is OK but the second is a marked improvement. Uses the screen gimmick incredibly well.

Just gonna weigh in to support the general Cold War love.
Joanna Kulig absolutely spot on as sexy Trouble with a capital T. Fun to be around but otherwise an absolute nightmare to put up with.
