Lib Dems can’t talk to Labour as that will allow Johnson to run a GE campaign on ‘Vote Swinson, get Corbyn’

as I said, “stop no deal at all costs, but not if it means we have to compromise”.

FUCKIN MON THEN

Guess I’ll be actively campaigning after all.

Hopefully that would happen. No deal would be such a shot in the dark though - he could end up with a majority but if things go really badly he could destroy his party.

publicly & privately aren’t necessarily the same thing though are they? That goes both for saying ‘Avoid No Deal at all costs’ and ‘we will not talk with Labour’

Chuka isn’t running in Streatham again, he’s going for the Queen’s constituency so he can lose valiantly then slink off to a high-paying consultancy job

Fairly sure I heard Berger’s been given a London seat too?

Absolutely. It’s just a symptom of how we do politics in this country, but when the stakes are this high it’s frustrating as hell to watch.

Also, not sure how a VonC will stop Brexit at this point unless it can somehow include a revoke A50 clause or Parliament can put together some kind of entity to go to the EU and be granted an extension and then pass legislation on that - all in the right order, all within 2 weeks from the Queen’s speech in October - this is exactly why Johnson prorogued

There’s a slim chance that the courts will strike down his prorogation but there’s no guarantee that he’ll reconvene Parliament with enough time to spare

I honestly think it’s going to come down to an emergency revoke or a No Deal

but who knows, the outcomes are pretty hard to call right now, whereas the ticking clock counting down to October 31st is pretty straightforward

This. All they have to do is agree on an alternative PM and if Johnson refuses to go they put forward a humble address to the Queen to force him out.

But they won’t.

exactly

Johnson really does hold all the cards and there aren’t really any ways to stop him exiting with a No Deal on October 31st. All he needs to do is run down the clock …and I think he has more than proved that he’s the kind of belligerent twat prepared to do that

Good morning all. Was left pretty miserable yesterday reading up about politics so staying the heck out of here today (especially in the wake of this supreme court thing).

Have a nice day everyone. :upside_down_face:

MP for Barking.

Sorry.

It’s also somewhat ironic more widely that owing to the LDs positioning choices on Brexit it is Labour who now clearly occupy the ‘(arguably) sensible middle’ position on the matter. I say arguably because we’ll only know how ‘sensible’ Labour’s position has been once it’s been stress tested in, and come out the other side of, an election (or whether or not a ‘centre ground’ opinion on the matter actually exists).

The symbolism of the Supreme Court is quite …err…eye opening

Is anyone else watching the Supreme Court feed today? Fully expect the Government to win.

It’s a three day hearing. I reckon I’d lose the will to live about 45 minutes in.
