UK departure creates domino effect, inspiring similarly horrific portmanteaus - Frexit, Swexit etc

There was an Irish Twitter account that often posted variations on that phrase. That was my tribute to her.

Was in France last week and saw a sticker on a lamppost calling for a “Frexit”. No idea why anybody in 2019 would think this a good idea at all

The Express deriding Luxembourg for being a tax haven - good to see they’re against tax avoidance all of a sudden!

This is dreadful, obviously, but how do we think it’ll go down with party members and their supporters? Do they care about austerity and the reasons behind Brexit? I’m not too sure that they do.

to be fair, isn’t her criticism that the conservatives haven’t explained how they are suddenly going to find the money, she mentions taxation decisions, dont think there is enough in that clip to say what her opinion is on continued austerity

I think we know very well what her opinion is on it; if it could be seen to benefit her and her career in any way at all then she’s all for it.

My takeaway was she’s fine with austerity and thinks ‘difficult choices’ had to be made and the choices made are justifiable due to labour WRECKING the economy.

I kind of think this is either what she truly thinks or what she thinks will play best to voters. ie coming out and addressing it will get bad headlines so best to ignore it.

I wonder if they’ll ever properly address what they did. I don’t think they’ll accept blame if it’s politically damaging and I don’t really see this lot of Lib Dem’s ever dropping that ‘reigning in Tory excess’ line.

All the Lib Dems I know think of themselves as entrepreneurs, think Jo is good, think labour are Hard Left and never mention anything other than Brexit and Corbyn. I think they’re idiots or disingenuous or in denial about how far to the right their ideology is and how it plays out in the real world. I don’t know how they can not engage with ideas beyond those mentioned above. it seems so obvious to me that the very least all those dead people deserve and all those people who’ve suffered, and their families deserve is an explanation from a party that wants their vote about why they killed people. So to not properly address it, to me means they don’t care enough about certain groups of people and they’re ok with that or yeah, they don’t understand that people need the government to help them out with things. :man_shrugging:

Or they’re just scared J. McDonnell’s gonna get them locked up and they don’t want to say something they’ll regret :balance_scale:

This but with ‘revoke brexit’ in every box or something. I’m tired.

dont get me wrong I know she is bad, and for all I know she might still support austerity, I just dont think the video supports the tweet, if the tweet had been ‘swinson sidesteps question, avoids responsibility for austerity, and deflects criticism onto conservatives’, then that would be fair, but saying ‘even more regressive than conservatives’ seems like a bit of a stretch. dont have a problem with her getting a bit of unfair criticism as the wider context means it is actually fair criticism, but I guess I think that kind of stuff can be counterproductive, as if someone less aligned with Sarker sees it there takeaway may well be ‘hard lefty unfairly criticises swinson via wilfully over interpreting ambitious video clip’ which to those kinds of people undermines criticism of Swinson rather than Swinson her self, especially when there is plenty of clear cut stuff to criticise on. i think I just dont like twitter

‘5p plastic bags’ right at the top.

Feel free to get stuck into the year 2000 discussion in the 21st Century Guardian top 100 albums thread on the Music board at Reading.

That interviewer is dreadful too, TBF. What the hell is this question he seems to be formulating out of thin air? Didn’t he prepare? Hasn’t he done this before?
