Not really! You’ll see what I mean with it if you watch it

Watched Daisies, absolutely loved it. Very Vic and Bob esque in places

I’m thinking of ending things was really great, I thought, but I’m a sucker for sort of off the cuff analysis of everything like this was

Well The Great Dictator sure does put the great in … the dictator, eh

It was very very good

Watched an early Tsui Hark film called Zu: Warriors Of The Magic Mountain last night. Absolute classic 80s Hong Kong wuxia, impenetrable plot, great stunt work, ropy SFX, and relentlessly fast, just set pieces peaking again and again and again with none of that boring exposition or downtime. John Carpenter has cited it as an influence on Big Trouble In Little China, massive fun out of 10.

One of my favourite film podcasts does a weekly poll
Let’s do this weeks Filmspotting Movie Podcast poll here shall we?

What is the best three-plus hour film of the last decade?

  • Avengers: Endgame
  • Blue is the Warmest Color
  • Carlos
  • The Irishman
  • OJ: Made In America
  • The Wolf of Wall Street
  • Other

I would never have considered the OJ film against those others but it’s clearly the best.

Hmmm, so I’m Thinking of Ending Things… (entire plot spoilers below)

Loved the opening 20 minutes or so, the awkward car journey with her mulling over whether or not it will be their last (felt quite relatable!) and then the jarring inclusion of the poem. Once they got to the house it became a bit more ‘so what is going on?’ and then when Jesse P said they met in the way the janny had seen on tv I had a whole ‘oh crap that’s not actually what is going on is it?’. And then it was… dance sequence was nice but also pretty indulgent

Ultimately I think this is Kaufman’s weakest film, but it does manage to convey a pervasive sense of unease throughout and is elevated by some exceptionally strong performances from Jessie and Jesse.

Reluctant vote for Blue… but it is an incredible film

I just wish it was possible to replace the completely unnecessary and very uncomfortable-to-watch (knowing the distress it caused the actors) sex scenes with a couple of pleasant montages of them going for walks or painting or something idk

In checking this out I found that the 2005 King Kong was over 3 hours long … so unnecessary

Just splice in extra scenes of Adele E eating spaghetti

Yes. Actually laugh out loud funny in places.

Out of those options easily OJ, but I’d add Norte the End of History, An Elephant Sitting Still, So Long My Son and Wild Pear Tree. I’ve not seen La Flor or The Women Who Left yet.

Other: So Long, My Son

MUBI Go is extremely back, BABY. Seems like you can have your pick from Tenet and Les Misérables this week.

PSA (I hope): A Matter of Life and Death is on BBC2 on Monday afternoon, 2.30pm.

A cow’s favourite film, Apocalypse Moo, is now on Mubi

Haven’t seen it and got halfway through it on the iPlayer the other day but then got too sleepy, so I’m very pleased as it got taken off there
