Swap Leeds and sheff Utd and don’t think you are too far off

The Sheridans were the hardest family in Stretford in the 80s and 90s. Loads of brothers and cousins, all handy. Obviously John and Darren made it pro, think one other did as well, but they were bad eggs. One of the brothers was a notorious burglar whose calling card was curling one out in houses he’d robbed.

Imagine a world where Everton aren’t the definition of that ‘mid-table making up the numbers’ section.

Oh they are, they’ll just be top of it.

Man thats actually really depressing, can’t imagine having such a negative fan base. I mean pessimism isn’t rare in football but that figure seems exceptionally low

Brighton fans are in for a nasty surprise this season based on this…

Maybe the captain and star player publically bemoaning the sale of a player?

Yep. Weren’t Brighton pretty shocking before lockdown? They didn’t win a game from early December to after football came back in June.

Yes they benefited from the break and looked a better team for it, but they seem to have forgotten that horrendous run.

Think as Brighton fans we’re just eternally happy to not be showing out in Gillingham or on an athletics track to play Scarborough, it’s the underdog life

I was all doom and gloom for us, but after our signings I’ve perked up. We’re also not done on our incomings.

I think we’ll struggle early on due so many defenders being out, but we’ll recover and finish 14th.

A front 4 of Batshuayi, Eze, Zaha and Ayew is pretty exciting. Like we actually have striker options in the first time in years.

I also have a hunch that Riedewald will be good this year too and play a lot more.

Absolutely no chance my team are losing today :facepunch:t2::facepunch:t2::facepunch:t2:

But how many of of your current fan base were actually fans back then? That’s not a dig, I’m happy for the real fans who did go through all that. But I’m guessing this poll covers a lot of newbies who got the cheap season tickets when the Amex was built.

Four away wins today - 120/1.

(No away wins then).

Brighton fans remember Gillingham and the Withdean stadium, we’re just happy the club still exists yet alone is playing top flight football.

This is also the first season where not every pundit is picking us for the drop and the team is better than this time last year with a couple of youngsters breaking through and a couple of experienced players being signed to usher em in

Day one of the season and we’ve got a fake Derby ding dong.

Very fair point, and hard to measure, but obviously it would be insane to suggest the majority of the current fanbase has been along for the ride. I mean I was only 9/10 when we played out in Gillingham and still on a hangover from my failed childhood attempt to become a gloryhunting Blackburn Rovers fan.

Writing this post just made me remember something I’d forgotten, which was my Dad pleading with me not to wear a Kevin Gallacher Blackburn away shirt to one of the games. He let me wear it when my mates Dad took me to see Chelsea at Stamford Bridge though, in the home end

Think there is still that underdog mentality though, even from fans who’ve only been along since the AMEX days. Don’t know too many fans who’d comfortably feel we’re a Premiership team, and the stated goal each year is always primarily to stay up and then by a slightly more comfy margin than the year before

Same with us, from being hours from being wound up, twice.

All my point is that the poll would be skewed by fans who wouldn’t have been through all that.

Also I’m not denying we’ve got a lot of fans who’ve only known the Premier League, and wouldn’t have been at Hillsborough where I’ve we’d lost we’d have been relegated and very likely wound up.

Whilst I suspect a lot of people are new fans the atmosphere in the AMEX is always buzzing and by in large the fans seem completely lucid to where we stand and what to expect from the team.

As a result any signs of improvement means positivity and the toxic fan count is relatively low for a premiership side

Thats probably why the fans are positive and in high spirits. Conversely Palace had that Ultra boycott and season ticket nonsense going on so that’ll likely negatively impact mood
