Half get your point, agree with the original point, but if you’re talking food chain players like that are always gonna end up at a club that can compete for the biggest trophies. The amazing thing with Villa is that it took him so long to do so.
Fully disagree with comparisons to the likes of Eze, it’s not like he was a luxury squad option. If anything it was more like Lewandowski going from Dortmund to Bayern, except with a bigger gap. Valencia had amazing players for a time but they were never got close to achieving/competing like Klopp’s Dortmund.
It’s a shame strikers don’t exist anymore, I used to love them ![]()
Yeah it was great when they banged them in
Jan Venegoor of Hesselink was one
Now there’s a crack you could set your watch to
Des Phantom, Watford legend
he was a system player, right
Think if you’re comparing Villa to Barcelona to any British signing it’d be Mahrez to city. An obviously world class player going to the squid, still being world class and improving them, but needing to sacrifice themselves a bit because they’re now one of several brilliant players rather than the one at that level (after Silva/Kante left)
Mahrez is a free agent rn, shame there’s no idk, Big Sam’s Bolton in the league willing to take him on
Chelsea made a late attempt to sign James Garner for £65 million, is it?

roy scored fucking 39 goals in one season for us, then a load of goals for Bayern, was plainly the best striker in europe at the time, and Holland were like:

yeah, lets get pierre van hojdonk or some bullshit up front.
genuine utter wastemen.
He should go back to Leicester. Rinse some postmen every week, scoring the consolation in a 3-1 defeat
Get him back to City on a short-term deal, we’re down to the bare bones there now - Semenyo, Ndiaye, Foden, Cherki, Allan and McAidoo.
He scored a load of goals for Depor AND in the Bundesliga? Wow he must be good! Can we get him out of retirement?!
