Fucking nailed it mate. No idea who that first lot are though. Should I avoid? Thoughts on that band I don’t like BTW?
Reckon there da’s are in the biz. Supported at the drive in in Vicar street ffs.

I regularly break into venues any time after 12 noon so that I’m sure I definitely don’t miss the headliner

forgot about that! by all accounts from friends they’re good lads, but they’re not for me and i’m surprised by their success, bagged a decent label as well. fully expected the hype train to carry them to an NI Music Prize win (BBC News even did an article based completely around them the day of the awards!) but didn’t happen.

the first lot are a synth pop band that seemed to be on every support bill for a while, again friends know them and they seem alright but not a fan.

Oh they seem okay and good luck to them having a ball but to me their music is rank and they’re getting such a weird mix of support slots and their ma’s and da’s are always at the gigs that I reckon their must be some kind of shenanigans.
You know who are another one that are warmed up turd? Mmode!
This is now the thesewoodenideas slates local bands thread
Back on topic: and don’t get me started on their bloody set times!

Presumably they didn’t know as there was no social media back then. I mean people are still able to avoid set times if they want :man_shrugging:

Same for me too. Been caught out by a few gigs where the headliner doesn’t come on until 10/10:30, at which point I have to run if I want to sleep in a bed that night. Some bands/promoters don’t seem to realise that not everybody lives in cities.

about 10 years ago went to a fair few shows put on by upset the rhythm, always knew there was a good chance I would have to leave 20 minutes into the headliner, sometimes missed them entirely. they seem a lot better nowadays

This used to be a particular problem at the Luminarie (RIP) as the last overground was about 11pm. Remember Casiotone for the Painfully Alone finishing his set to about 20 people on a Sunday night

I had to leave grouper just after she came on there once

Yeah, they were terrible for it. I think I stopped going to gigs put on by UTR for that very reason.

think they always said it was so people would see the support bands, I always thought there line ups were such that a lot of people at any given gig would be there for the support bands any way, and people who were really support band adverse would probably just adjust and come even later

remember I had to leave mount eerie before he even came on at cafe oto, my friend said he later auctioned his guitar at that gig, I would own that guitar right now if the gig had been on regular gig time

I don’t mind that bands start late. Just tell me in advance and I won’t bother wasting my money buying a ticket. Particularly if the gig is miles out the way in a pub basement in Dalston or something.
