One of my favourite groups of NOW - Sexual Jeremy - dropped their second proper album Bleachers today. I’m listening to it now for the first time so no insights forthcoming.
If you like bands like US Maple, Polvo, XBXRX, AIDS Wolf, Thinking Plague - maybe even Black Midi and contemporary skronky-weirdo guitar mess - then I think this sprightly Denton, TX based group should be able to rock your world.
Timecoded here is them playing their slowburn wrongheaded epic ‘Came’ off their proper debut The Real Sexual Jeremy. The debut (also on Spotify) is a great place to start as it showcases the band’s range - slashing no wave bangers, warped tropical indie, benzo-addled burners - with lyrics that have crept up on me about precarity and shit work. Like a lot of bands in this area, don’t come for ‘great vocals’, but it’s a singing drummer and he does a good enough job in allowing the jagged guitars space to cockfight wildly.
Anyway, what excites me is that they bear scrutiny next to the bands they get compared to rather than sounding like a facsimile of them. Anyone know them?
