I love that there were twice as many black metal albums as there were all other music. That is a true commitment.

more than twice as many actually listened to, I heard over 110 black metal albums but only about 40 non-bm :slight_smile:

My favourites below (title was just to differentiate the shortlist from a very longlist rather than a hubristic value judgment; one track per artist trad rules and more variety would have been more interesting but I just go for my 100 faves with my end of year playlists)

For cosmic probably these two from the Prava Kollektiv drop from the beginning of December;


Maybe the Blut Aus Nord release from this year, although perhaps more Lovecraftian than cosmic;

Not really heard much in the black/death genre, maybe Esoctrilihum’s mammoth triple album release from earlier in the year;
