Next door used to be a rental property and had a massive renovation done when the last tennent moved out.

I kept complaining to the landlord about leaving stuff (white goods/ general bric a brac) in the shared access passage and eventually he told me to stop contacting him because he wasn’t involved with the house anymore.

The building work last about nine months and involved about seven different groups of tradespeople. They were no bother but left a load of waste in their back yard. Eventually that was put in a skip and removed.

The people who moved in started doing DIY in the evening and I had to complain a few times about drilling and hammering after 10.00. They also (for some reason) couldn’t be bothered to use their bin and so chucked out a load of black bags into the garden. They had a habit of chucking leftover food into the garden (mainly naan bread and pizza but also bits of kebab meat and chicken) until I pointed out they’d be attracting rats and foxes. We eventually complained to the council about the state of the back yard and it’s been tidyed but not cleared.

They have had regular visitors during the period that we’re not meant to have visitors.

I genuinely worry that they think I don’t like them because they’re brown when I actually don’t like them because they’re really fucking inconsiderate.

I live in a block of six flats and only myself and my lovely, excellent (and very quiet) upstairs neighbour don’t slam the fucking shit out of the communal front door all the time.
It doesn’t need to be slammed at all. If you leave it the mechanism closes the door (reasonably quietly but there is a bit of a bang). So you’d have to pull it behind you really hard to make it slam as much as it regularly does. It’s really weird. Don’t get it.

Slamming doors… GRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrr I really bloody hate it

(Other than that my neighbours are absolutely lovely and no bother. Really lucky so I shouldn’t moan too much)

Lived for 3 years in a flat where the flat below was 6 students. They barely made a noise the whole time. It was kind of freaky tbh. One Summer when windows were routinely open they went through a period of playing a ‘Best of’ U2 album, did occasionally think it would be funny to storm round in a faux rage to complain about it.

Yeah in the end I walked in and I’ve felt bad about it since, but the music was SO loud I believed I had to do something.

I only stepped into the hallway and they were clearly surprised so we were all sort of apologising to each other which was strange, but it’s been fine since. If I knew them at all I would gift them a little something but I dunno :woman_shrugging:

Well, I think the landlord is worried that if there’s more noise complaints they’ll lose the HMO licence, and then it can only be rented to families and not lucrative students.

Let the them use the garden - it’s not the same people as last year, just don’t be super noisy.

Someone in our building slams the main front door harder than humanly possible and shakes our whole flat. Problem is if we left a note, they probably wouldn’t care or change their behaviour

I’m a bad neighbour. I’ve had my neighbour shout at me for playing guitar at 9:30 with the amp on 1 and my wife ill in bed couldn’t hear me and for having a mock argument with the wife at 10:10 on a Saturday night. Was screamed that “some of us have to work early in the morning.”

There’s only 5 of us in this building. I know he starts work later than me.

I think we are ok, bit noisey sometimes maybe but it’s hard to tell. We get on well with our neighbours and have said (us and them) to ever just let us know if we are too loud, they have never said anything but they are really nice and polite so not sure they would say anything anyway!
Can never hear them but it’s impossible to know if that’s because they don’t make any noise or if the soundproofing in the houses is quite good :thinking:

Had a chat to my new neighbours on the other side and apologised if we’d made any noise and they said they could barely hear us.

This made me feel like a good neighbour and also made me think about the number of conversations I can hear the other neighbours having at three in the morning.

Our neighbours have one of those trampoline-in-cage things in their garden. When their kid jumps up and down on it my dog also jumps up and down, barking whilst she does it

we had a weed farm next door - the smell was atrocious and they fucked our chimney. which the landlord still hasn’t fixed (and obviously won’t for a bit now)
