Should encores be banned?

The one time a band I was in ended up unexpectedly doing an encore, we had already played all our songs. We just played our best one a second time. According to my mum, this used to happen all the time in the 70s.

The modern, calculated encore is odd and yes, it should probably be banned. I love the Manics’ policy of never doing them - it’s probably saved me hours, over the years.

I don’t think they should be banned, it’s up to the band whether they want to do one or not but they do sometimes seem a little pointless when they are so expected.

Shellac dismantling everything during their last song gives you a pretty good indication that there won’t be an encore coming.

have to say i love the whole ‘inching slowly away from the stage to get a headstart in case there’s no encore’ bit of the gig
