Loads of awful things are nominated for and win that though.

Lionel Messi won it last time and he’s really good

I think this is major in understanding Shrek from a contemporary perspective. Shrek was very much an agenda-setting film which has led to an incredible amount of knock-off dross, and that has subsequently undermined what is actually a decent (personally, I think it’s a mid-level kids’ film) movie because a lot of the things that made it funny and interesting have been rendered totally beige, not just by imitators but by its rumination on its own legacy. Shrek’s fine, I wouldn’t turn it off if it was on, but what a bandwagon it created.

what put me off shrek originally were things like the references to real life businesses but with the names changed. but if you look past that at how donkey is funny they’re good.

Obviously a very good film. Fuck me. You people sometimes. No joy in you at all. Shrek of all things. What will you come for next? Chocolate digestives?

Loved it when I was a kid, watched it again last year and it’s still really funny. Cheers.

Don’t think I’ve ever seen it. Not all of it anyway. So I guess that probably means I think it’s bad.

it’s fine, but i find it very funny that a proper journalist would hate SHREK enough to write this article

Maybe he’s fuming that he had some Serious Journalism all written up and was told ‘no, you must write a Shrek anniversary piece, Adrian will do the Serious Journalism’

Seems fair enough that one specialising in reviewing films would though, no?

the burning rage for Shrek persisting 20 years on is very funny.

But it isn’t though is it? It’s mostly about how many awful films it encouraged.

ok, you’ve got me, it’s actually not at all funny that The Guardian hates Shrek

It’s extremely of its time, and the article is right that it spawned a thousand awful derivatives, but anyone saying they didn’t enjoy it when they first saw it is lying.
