I have loads of signed stuff. My most treasured ones are probably by people who are no longer with us e.g. Mark Linkous. My least treasured ones are now probably the likes of Ryan Adams, Mark Kozelek, Win Butler
Didnāt our friend C do exactly this this week?
Have lots of signed LPs and book.
Even split between in person/merch desks and online.
Some of the nicest were Julian Koster doing illustrations of his Music Tapes characters.
Havenāt been to a āsigning onlyā style thingv for a band in ages - probably The Killers back in 2004 tbh (HMV in Dublin. Brandon and Ronnie were great. Other two were moody fuckers).
Think the best combo was when Willy Vlautin was doing a book tour. Usually does a big interview. Q&A and then gets the guitar out and does a few Richmond Fontaines and Delines tunes. Then does a signing and chat with everyone afterwards. Top lad.
I could probably post a few of my fave signed LPs and give a wee bit of info if anyone cares
(Iām sure they are nice lads btw, I enjoyed them a lot as a teenager!)
Got two things signed in person.
An Open Mike Eagle EP whilst he was out early to watch Milo, some other squiggles and a word on it that I canāt make sense of now and donāt really remember the conversation. Think this is the only time Iāve asked for it.
A Why? poster as I had a long chat with Yoni after as Iād bumped into him in the shops the day before and he recognised me during the gig. Was a nice chat and he grabbed Josiah when he was signing, mainly remember that called me a ārap kidā. Need to get it framed still.
Got a fair few novels and comic books signed and remarqued over the years but album signing is something Iām relatively new to. I like going to Rough Trade Nottingham for the small gig & signing events they do. Saw Everything Everything and Letās Eat Grandma doing that last year. Tiny venue, really nice atmosphere, get to have a little chat with the band after and get some merch I might have missed otherwise.
Neil Gaiman loves doing this as well, Iāve been lucky to find a copy of a special edition of The Ocean At The End Of The Lane heād guerilla signed.
Got Biffy Clyro sigs and a plectrum somewhere from them playing (ex-public toilets) Tunbridge Wells Forum on the Blackened Sky tour.
And a The Blood Brothers ticket from their London Garage show in 2002(?) signed by Jordan and Johnny I think.
Have been to a few at Rough Trade Nottingham, donāt always stay for the signing as itās usually a bit of a scrum to form the queue. I think the last one I went to there was Suede doing an acoustic show/signing and Brett spent the time he was signing my CD eating a bag of crisps, not even looking up . Saw them again at Rough Trade East for the last album and they were a lot nicer and had a good chat about how great it was going to live music again after lockdowns.
One took my copy of BRMCs Howl to a signing. It was in a special edition slipcase that the band had never seen before. They were very bemused by it.
Sure you could sell them
Used to go the NME signing but at Leeds festival if there wasnāt much of a queue would go along as you usually got a free poster or somethingā¦all your favourites The Datsuns, The Music, The Thrills. Remember The Datsuns being nice and giving me sweets
Went to a bush signing at hmv in Manchester and they gave everyone tickets to a gig at the roadhouse for free.
Those were the days x
Queued up 2 hours early for a Cooper Temple Clause signing. About 8 of us there including the band
Got 4 5ths of Hundred Reasons to sign a receipt of a Hundred Reasons 7" i had purchased at Virgin Megastore
Did you get the HR drummer or was he the missing one? I went to the same school as him.
Although to be clear; this was at different times, and I donāt know him and canāt get his signature if he is, in fact, the missing member
Iāll be honest, i cant remember
Although i have a HR drummer anecdote. When they were just breaking out, my friend Darren told me he was mates with Andy the Drummer from Hundred Reasons
At a later date I bumped into Andy the Drummer from Hundred reasons at Swindon Oasis leisure centre and said āOh, hi, my friend knows you. You know Darren Scott?ā to which he replied āNoā
I have quite a few signed records and CD like collecting them , donāt really know why. But my best singing interaction was a non-music related one. Met Shane Warne at the peak of his playing days. I was only about 10 years old but he asked me to hold his pack of cigs , so he could still hold a pint in one hand and reach for a marker with the now free hand.
This was during a game but he took time to step out the players bit and sign things for kids , true pro.
Got my cricket cap signed by Joe Root and all of Bright Eyes. Not on the same day, sadly, but itās still among my most treasured items.
