I couldnt find a thread for Ben Chasny’s six organs of admittance project., hopefully there is some interest in him on this forum!

He is making a rare visit to Europe next month.

Yeah, always great - love the split with William Tyler. Will see if any of these dates are feasible!

Companion rises is my favourite. Perfect lockdown listening.

Like him a lot, looking forward to the Dublin show

He was a lockdown discovery for me, I went down a rabbit hole of Six Organs/William Tyler/Ryley Walker type stuff, felt ideal for the time

I love a bit of Ben, even if i’ve lost track in recent years

Was a massive comets on fire fan so followed from there. The early stuff is my favourite like School of the Flower, The Sun Awakens, Dark Noontide and the Octavio Paz stuff. Loved the medieval feel of Luminous Night also. Feel like im wandering around a village in the late afternoon sun.

Really enjoyed Ascent as a bit of straight up rocking also.

Lost track of the more ‘experimental’ pattern based stuff later and haven’t really jumped back on so will keep an eye on this for relevant recs. Would love to go see him again to be honest. good to get lost to.

I was always disappointed I didn’t like Six Organs of Admittance more - seems like exactly the kind of thing I ought to like, given what I do like, and in quite a few ways (even more so for Comets on Fire, who I don’t remember liking at all despite [because of?] on paper sounding like it was made for me). Played The Sun Awakens loads but never really got properly into it; bounced off a few others even more quickly.

Not that I’ve kept up with everything, but there is one thing of his I do think genuinely works, the first Hexadic album - not because of the composition gimmick (which I do think is cool) - but because it sounds really good to me, sometimes almost hits the heights of fucked up reverby fuzz guitar like Mainliner or Boris.

There’s a couple I still haven’t heard but think my favourites are Dark Noontide, Companion Rises and Shelter from the Ash

I remember Ascent being pretty up my street but haven’t gone back to it which I must correct

Love this one

Some of the early pre-Drag City albums are very cheap to download on his own label’s bandcamp

This little archival collection is pay what you want

That was my first of his I got into. Had some of the comets guys on board for that one so it goes pretty hard at times.

I’ve only heard one Comets on Fire album (Field Recordings From the Sun) so I must explore further

If you like this side of six organs then I think you’ll love avatar and blue cathedral.
