Have the CDs all been played on the old player, could it have knackered them slightly? I had a player which definitely caused some CDs problems which then replicated elsewhere, it did leave visible circular spin marks though.

Really long CD’s store their extra data in the error correction part of the disc, this can cause problems on some players, regardless of the players age.

That only worked of you gave the player chance to store the music in the buffer. If you turned on a CD then started moving it you were in trouble but for the odd bump it were fine
