You know how it’s all about the synergy between cards? Currently on a good streak with the silent combining triple poison with… another triple poison. 30 becomes 270 very easily if you get a good draw

I was finally having an excellent run with Silent. Smashed the time cunt, even after he got half his poisoned health back, had loads of great relics, then it…ended? I was all set to wreck my way through Act 4 as well! Which I’ve never actually got through before. I unlocked Ascension - is that just when you’ve got all the other unlocks for a character?

Did you collect the 3 keys?

1. From a chest. 2. From a campfire. 3. From a super elite.

Nah, definitely didn’t do that! I whacked a heart a bit and then fell asleep and there was this tripartite symbol with one part glowing? Very mysterious but I felt like I actually accomplished something for once! Whatever it finally was.

Ascension is basically a modifier on the vanilla run. There are TWENTY in total. And they stack. So whatever the modifier is on A1 carries over when you unlock A2. It gets harder basically. My best is A12 with Ironclad.

For your next run you get the opportunity to collect three keys. It makes the run slightly harder cos you have to e.g. select the key rather than resting at one bonfire but if you beat act 3 with all the keys you unlock act 4.

Alternatively you can go down the ascension route if you fancy it as described above.

How do you select ascension? I could only see starting another, what appeared to be normal run, but of course the time prick got me good this time! Is there any way to tell where these keys’ll pop up too?

I missed the whole how to select ascension thing for ages, its not immediately obvious!

When you get to the character select screen for a new run you’ll get the four options, when you go to a character you’ve already beaten act three with then there will be a little check box for ascension 1 (on switch it’s tiny).

If you want to unlock act 4 and pick up the keys then you need to fight a specific elite, he’ll have flames round him on the map so plot a route to him. The bonfire key is easy cos it’s an option at any bonfire to recall the key instead of rest or Smith. The chest key can be taken instead of the relic at any non boss chest.

Good luck!

Didn’t even know there was an act four lol

That’s super helpful, thank you!

Picked up again for the first time in ages, still trying to get my first silent win. Got merked by the time bastard at the last hurdle again :pensive:

Silent’s the only one I don’t completely suck with and that’s still only part of the time! It’s that sinking feeling when he negates all your poison and you’ve got nothing left in the tank - totally feel your pain!

Yeah just had no way to get enough block up. Had been a good run I thought, had aimed for elites and picked up loads of relics, been really cagey about picking up cards, trimmed the deck, had got my max HP up… Corpse exploder is so satisfying when a mob turns up.

If you have Corpse Explosion and you happen to get Donu and Deca you’re laughing, probably literally.

So satisfying! Upgraded Catalyst, Corpse Explosion, and that relic that transfers poison after death…viola! I think the delayed gratification is what I like best about Silent actually.

I’ve done a total 180 on the silent, I’m all about the shivs now

I’ve been thinking about a shiv set up, but how d’you maximise that? Even if you retain them and have a tonne of copies they’re still low damage ain’t they? What would be the ideal combo of cards etc for it?

Ah now you’re asking!
So there’s a very handy relic that adds 4 damage to each 0 cost card, therefore each shiv goes 8 damage. You’ve also got a card that, upgraded, adds 6 to each shiv damage. I had two of those and the relic, leaving that each shiv did 20 damage. Factor in powers like the one that damages an enemy every time you play a card or next turn deals double damage and you’re well on the way to some serious slaughter and all for 0 energy cost per shiv played. Life changing I tell you.

So easily ruined if you come up against the time boss. That particular boss is a nightmare for Silent. But when it works it’s very satisfying.

Oooh, well up for trying that approach, noice! It’s properly sucked me back in at the moment and I kind of feel like I know how to utilise combinations a bit better - like, weak and discard ones that modify things and create a rolling attack. When things work out it’s such an amazing feeling. There’s this high damage card that only works if it’s the last one in your pile and I was totally running out of options. Just as I was starting to resign myself to failure it cropped up and set off a huge chain reaction that I’d unwittingly prepared. Think that’s when I finally started to get what all the fuss was about!
